How good was Jack Dempsey

A couple of losses means nothing, especially from those eras where fighters generally fought the best at their best and didn't cherry pick like so many of the modern eras supposed greats.

Sugar Ray Robinson (arguably vthe best fighter ever) lost 15 times or more because he fought anyone anywhere. No cherry picking, no setting everything in his favour, no favourable judges to help protect their 0. These guys just went out and fought whoever and obviously they'd get beat sometimes.

Tyson has said he was influenced by Dempsey but more in terms of Dempsey being explosive and exciting for his time. Stylistically Tyson was different in many ways with his bobbing head movement and really awkward punching angles.

As for Dempsey in today's era he's obviously a small Heavyweight, more of a Cruiser. And yeah he'd probably clean out the Cruiser division, especially with Usyk moving up to HW.

before he won the HW title and lost alot of the hunger (sometimes literally!) that made him so ferocious in the ring, Dempsey was like a tiger <tiger>
