Beggars of London Underground

Are these people genuine

They come on your train carriage with the
same rehearsed speech about needing money
for a hostel.

I never give money.
But I dont mind giving food if I have some on me.

Sometimes I feel like asking if they can help me out with
my council tax or utility bills.

Probably make a fortune but you never know whos genuine.

They have managed to get a ticket to be on the trains in the first place.

What is post brexit britain gonna do to help them ?

I got all Patrick Bateman on the last homeless person who asked me for money .

I think the 'fake' homeless thing may be more of a London thing, or areas where people may think to be wealthy? I can honestly say I have never seen a homeless person in Leicester and thought they were faking it.

I don't give money normally as I genuinely never carry cash, but I have in the past got someone some food from Greggs and McDonalds a few times.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's rife in Cambridge, Oxford, Peterborough and Bedford too

Yes I too would be quite interested to see his extensive research on this matter.

Pretty much the same for me too.

Think the best gift for a homeless person would be a contactless receiver these days, most peoples excuse would be void then.

Surely they could go round holding it to people's pockets.

You might be onto something. I have noticed here there are these things in the main shopping centre and high street you can scan contactless cards with and it donates £3.

No idea how it gets to the homeless people though.

People could do that now tbf, not really that easy. Doesn't work when I'm in a store unless you actually tap the card on the pad. Works just by being near it for Apple pay though, but you've got to have authorised it first in that case.

If you tap the card on the pad, surely it isn't contactless.

Only works if the phone is unlocked though

Anyway, if you want to keep your cards safe, get a Secrid wallet.
