Quarantine drinks

So as we know many of us are bored without sports, pubs, restaurants, cinemas etc.

One of the things that helps me get through the week is a few drinks on a Friday and Saturday night.

While having a drink at home is nowhere near as fun as the pub it’s at least something to enjoy and look forward to.

My quarantine drinks so far have been Italian beers Peroni and Moretti and both are very good from a bottle. Probably better from the bottle than on draught actually. I’ve also been having a few G&T’s as I’ve loads of Gin at home as in recent years it seems to be a popular gift.

What are your quarantine drinks of choice? Discover anything new? Any recommendations?

I bought a bottle of Plantation Jamaican Xaymaca rum today. Hoping it's a good one.

Rosso, I have once had a Portuguese brandy, whose name I don't remember, it was in Lagos I think. It was good but not special.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The most famous and prevalent one is called Macieira. Not really my cup of tea, but there’s a nicer softer and aged one I mentioned above called CR&F.

Mostly people here drink medronho, which is sweet and frighteningly strong aguardente made from arbutus berries, or bagaço, which is the Portuguese equivalent of grappa.

Dark and stormy aka a dark and/or spiced rum with ginger beer. My preference is Kraken rum
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Double Legendário with a whole bottle of Fever Tree ginger beer is perfect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ll have to try legendario. I do like diplomatico
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you like Diplomatico get yourself a bottle of Doorlys XO for £30, it’s stunning, and between that and English Harbour you’ll struggle to find a better rum around £30. I’ve had a bottle of Legendario before, quite enjoyed it over ice but it’s a little too sweet for me tbh

Why are most distillers that make rum called Ron?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In a nutshell there are 3 main styles of rum. Ron is the Spanish style, usually use demerera and it’s generally quite sweet. Then you’ve got Rhum which is French by origin and normally a bit more funky and vegetal. And lastly English style rum which is usually bold, molasses heavy, navy style rum.

Yeah, it’s incredibly sweet.

Have you tried any of the El Dorado range? They have a bit of sweetness to them, the 12 and 21 years are both absolute nectar 👌 definitely rum weather at the moment!

I love booze but it has to be good quality. Well not has to be, Ive spent many an hour drinking low quality warm booze in fields, but at home it does.

I do enjoy a good, 5%+lager.

Ciders are great.

Wine is great but it's murder if you drink anything else.

Spirits I adore gin. Good vodka straight out of the feezer is ace. As Ive aged I have got more into whiskeys.

I also enjoy a good port.

Favourite gin, Robbing?

I’m partial to an Opihr with tonic and a slice of orange. Sipsmith’s sloe gin is lovely as well.
