Play-offs?

So apparently UEFA have told PL clubs (and clubs in other leagues) to finish the season with playoffs if it can’t be done the normal way.

If true, which teams would be in these play offs?

For the CL places surely at least these 7 - Leicester, Chelsea, United, Wolves, Sheffield United, Spurs, Arsenal.

For relegation it could be any of the bottom 5/6

How would you guys set it up? Is it fair? Would Liverpool just be named champions? Would City be allowed to sit out the playoffs as they’re 12 points clear of 5th place (and also may not even be in the CL next season).

If just a one off game would for example, Norwich be the away side as they’re furthest away from safety?

Even with Liverpool, they’re top atm but they were losing game after game before the break. City could feasibly win all their fixtures and reel them in.
------

Say what?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Before the break, you lost 3-0 to Watford, home & away to Atlético, and to Chelsea. Your form tanked.

Not to mention Liverpool have something in the club’s DNA that makes them choke (The Slip, Karius, Anfield 89 etc.)

I could easily see City winning all their games and pinching the title.

Currently we are the third ranked English team in the coefficients. We’d be out if they used coefficients excluding the points gained this season, however. It won’t happen anyway, using coefficients is a ridiculous idea.

Within the same time frame City lost to Spurs and drew with Palace at home. Also lost to United.

How would City fans feel if they got given a playoff vs Liverpool for the title?

I remember the Charity Shield at the start of this season, felt we were the better team after the 2nd half and deserved to win, but i remember feeling that even if we won it it'd be empty, not that the cup means much anyway but if i remember we were only in it because City won the FA cup and league meaning they played 2nd place in it, so really we had no merit being there

I imagine this would be the case for City fans in this scenario.

Award liverpool the title and give them a CL place. Say City are banned from Europe next season.

Go off of Points per game because arsenal and Sheffield United have a game in hand

Palace and Burnley play a wild card game, let's say Burnley win

1 - Leicester
2 - Chelsea
3 - Man Utd
4 - Sheff Utd
5 - Wolves
6 - Arsenal
7 - Spurs
8 - Burnley

QFs

Game 1 - Leiecester(1) V Burnley(8)
Game 2 - Chelsea(2) V Spurs(7)
Game 3 - United(3) V Arsenal(6)
Game 4 - Sheff Utd(4) V Wolves(5)

Let's say the top seeds all win, they'll play each other next having guaranteed Europa league football with 3 champions league spots up for grabs.

Leicester(1) vs Sheff Utd(4)
Chelsea(2) vs Man Utd(2)

Assume the top seeds win again, they get champions league football. Losers play a game where the winner gets champions league and the loser gets europa league

Man Utd V Sheff Utd

Mean while, the 4 initial losers will be seeded and play a game, winners get the last 2 Europa league spots

Wolves(1) V Burnley(4)
Arsenal(2) V Spurs(3)

CL Teams - Liverpool, Leicester, Chelsea, United
EL Teams - Sheff Utd, Wolves, Arsenal

I don't know if this makes sense sorry.

that's really good. christopher, full marks.
wahl's idea is just moronic.
some people have said if they give liverpool the title it will be tainted but are alright with some other team winning the title through a playoff.

Never heard such nonsense this is not going to happen. What about the integrity of the league. That what all oppose to null and void say. Then they say what about the money. But then want a shorter season next season. How does that work.

Cancel the season, No European football next season. Start the leagues back up in September and If have to start behind closed doors so be it. Least club will be able to start planning.
