Portuguese Football Doing the Right Thing?

https://www.portugalresident.com/farense-promoted-to-primeira-liga/

Nice to see some sense in all of the different approaches from the footballing authorities in Europe.

It only is good because we are in first.

If we were in third, with an easily catchable gap to the top two and this happened to us we would be spitting poison.

Do I want it to happen here, of course, but I’m not going to pretend it would be fair, or pretend it’s for any other reason other than I want to see us in the premiership.

I also know full well all the fans saying it’s not fair, would drop those objections in a heartbeat if they were in the top two at this point.

Quite correct on ones league position being a driver for how one feels about finishing the season.

Most teams would want the season to be declared void as the only reason for playing the games is to provide legitimacy for the final table.

How legitimate that can be with neutral grounds and no fans as well as players being perhaps less willing to get stuck in for fear of contracting it, seems moot.

If my employer told me to work in a contact environment like a football match, I'd want PPE.

It seems to me far too great a risk just to finish it.
Which then leaves the idea of promoting Leeds and West Brom just for the hell of it.

That is not in the spirit of the competition. I just wish Johnson would tell football to stop as the French, Belgians and Dutch have sensibly done. No need for controversial decisions just bin it a start again.

Blah blah blah.

Imperfect situation, imperfect solutions, get over it.

Leeds haters love come here and giving it large. Perhaps they should worry about their own clubs, eh?

16th, 17th kicking off here!..

I hope the English league do the same, I don't like the idea of a season being ended and starting a false season afterwards!..

But I'll bet if they do finish they won't listen to your Government when it says they want something doing for the lower leagues like the German Government have!..

They have to find a way of finishing the 3rd league and Women's football!..

Recognising merit?

Leeds have appeared in the Champ playoffs once in 15 years.

Many other teams have appeared far more times. Why should Leeds, purely because they currently have a very blowable points advantage over 3rd place be gifted promotion.
This may sit well with Leeds fans but it doesn’t with teams from 3rd to 24th.

Let’s face it it’s the only chance you’ll get as you’ll bottle it if they play the season.

Sorry lads, I agree with this.

Not as kn 8 b-heady as he said it though

It's utterly irrelevant how often a team has been in the top 6, bottom 6 or anywhere else in between in the last 15 years.

The merit point is based on the current season, so on that basis we'd benefit under this logic were it adopted. Do I think it's right, no, I can see why others would have issue with it. The points differences mean fluctuations in final positions could easily occur if matches are played out.

Saying all the above, if it did happen it'd be totally worth it, just to hear the whinging, whining and faux outrage from you ……

VOF.. agree to an extend ref how many times, we've been in top 6 etc, but I do see it from a Derby fans point of view, 'merit'.. that said, we are and have been consistantly top all season long, but I do see it as vastly unfair to promote us, and West browm when the competion could have so many different outcomes.

Mate …. totally agree. It's just he's a perennial hater of all things Leeds, so anything that we can do to grate, anger or otherwise ruin his day gets my vote ……

Tell you what though.. it would backfire, because other Leeds haters would play the 'you would of bottled it' .. and you and I both know, we'd of had a very interesting and nervy 9 games to go

A bad result against Fulham, and we'd all be smeeling the coffee on one of Donns articles, J-dog would go after Orta again because one of his signings was at fault for the winning Fulham goal. We'd prob still be top.. but we'd be all falling out on here
