On the day that Celtic are crowned as champions (๐) and the EPL decide to go back to training with a view to restarting the league, I thought Iโd post a very rare article on my take on the situation (Iโve tagged Celtic and United as these seem to be the most active boards but also interested in Rangers, Liverpool and other clubs take) . The bottom line it this, each league/country will decide what course of action to take based on one thing...money. They will trot out sporting integrity etc.. etc.. but they (the clubs) will ultimately decide what they do based on what is financially the most beneficial. In Scotland the clubs needed the prize money, and if they started again they needed the gate receipts (and this wasnโt an option) or it wouldnโt be viable, therefore the only option was to call it as it is. In England itโs different, prize money and gate recipes are minuscule when compared to TV money, so they are pushing to complete their season no matter what in order to fulfil these obligations. At the end of the day, itโs not about doing everything to please Celtic or Liverpool or whoever, itโs about securing the finance. All the statements and articles and sound bites and whatever else are just smoke and mirrors to keep the brain dead element of the various support bases appeased, but when it comes down to it they will follow the money.

1/5th of your revenue is massive. You said it was miniscule. Its not, 5% is not even miniscule. 5 million is not miniscule, it could mean bankruptcy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also only Arsenal was above 20%, the majority in your link was below 10%, and Huddersfield which. we are using as an example, closer to 5%. Which would mean TV income was around 90-95% of their total.

I said minuscule in comparison to TV. £5 million compared to 96 is minuscule. In other words they can afford to resume the season and play behind closed doors as long as they are receiving the TV money.

op you made a brilliant postn no need to justify yourself to nit pickers

Thanks, but you must be the only one who think so judging by the lack of comment ๐

there is a trend on this forum, if you make too much sense, then there is literally nothing to discuss. Make a controversial or senseless article and you will have a lot of comments. There are a few posters I think exploit this deliberately

If it can be done safely there is nothing wrong in following the money. They have enormous overheads to pay, and they are businesses.

Very few leagues can function without fans. Even the Championship will need a bailout but even that won't make a difference if there's no fans for a year.

as a fan I think my club has been particularly wasteful when spending. Common sense suggest there will be limited new revenue streams for ed to explore and utd and many clubs might have to be leaner in a post covid world. But common sense and football usually don't mx

Surely getting called a “WUM” is far better than being called a “dumb clog wearing Kant” like you normally get!
Just saying
