League Reconstruction Debate

Okay, the season’s been called to a close and the title’s been awarded
Congratulations Celtic
so No changing that now. Anyone who wants to whisper ‘tainted’ can go and shout and ball at someone else. Well deserved I say.

Reconstruction

Lots said about it but all for naught it seems.
It requires an agreement which tells me it needs to be in the majorities interest to vote and implement.

Is this a something the league wants, fans want, owners want, sponsors want, sky wants?
If not it’s a non-starter. Seems to me if it doesn’t benefit the game financially it’ll be shot down.
I’ve read plenty on her which call it a positive step but then no concrete advantages are given to back this sweeping statement up.

I think there were too many looking to this to save them from relegation this season.
And a fair few others hoping for promotion from it too.
As I see it the benefits and costs are fairly balanced, and the only popular choices are the ones cherry-picking the pros and rejecting the cons. I certainly think our League would be stronger if expanded with a clear route for promotion, which takes into account lower leagues.

First off there were too many options on the table to let a choice be made, which was the board’s mistake. Let’s not split the vote and focus on what might improve our product and leagues.

Anyone with a Pro, or a con for change should post it here.
Or any that want to discuss the options and promote one ahead of another, here’s where to do that too.

Then maybe making an informed decision might be easier without the tinted specks.

I’ll start us off:

Impartially, advantages/disadvantages?
Pro
More rivalries, fans and potential derbies might happen. (1)
It removes a staleness and predictability brought with playing each other too often. (2)
The League image could receive a boost. (3)
New sponsors might be found. (4)
Con
A Change is always difficult to accept and will need board approval to implement. (a)
Clubs will want to avoid Relegation (this season) and will be hoping this offers a way to do that potentially influencing their vote. (b)
There is a chance this might have clubs in Promotion spots unfairly playing in much the same tier against familiar opposition next Season and being denied the opportunity to benefit from change. (c)
It might risk the possibility of providing 4x OF matches next season and going forward. (d)
More clubs mean a bigger split so less income for every top tier club next season. (e)

Go on. Add your thoughts.

Why is Reconstruction a great idea, or the worst idea on the planet?
Don’t hold back. Before you start, consider this:

Rather than asking Should League Reconstruction be Delivered? I think a better question is Can Reconstruction Solve some of the problems in our game?
I think it is important to stress this Can’t be used to simply solve club woes faced this season due to the unfairness of the campaign being cut short. Maybe Shouldn’t is the more appropriate term in this case. If Reconstruction provides a route to improving our Product, why not grab it?

Dissapointing we didnt revamp for one season only to avoid relegation.

Handing out titles is fine but to relegate a team is unfair especially when the gap is close.

Funny though

This

They have nobody to blame but themselves

The great thing is they pumped rangers

Keep the league as it is , nobody is going to enhance it are they ?

It’s a good line that’s getting trotted out. Nothing said from a Juventus official right enough, but it’s a good line.

So there's a consensus that for the sake of the TV deal we need to keep the same number of OF's to
keep a product to sell to the TV.

We knew that though, so a split will be required.

& Plastic pitches are as popular as VD
I wouldn't like to return to a top flight 10.
It was boring boring, boring

With a change the other clubs might be losing a money spinning fixture with either Glasgow club so this isn't viable.
What we are saying is that every other club is happy to keep taking the bigger gates when the OF's in town and aren't interested in a better or simpler structure to improve our product.
Both Glasgow clubs are being held ransom by this league.
I've read reports saying these two clubs hold all the cards but really all they carry is a Vito card. To stop the rest continue to vote to take the money from the OF.

Sadly, our product's never going to improve. That's the reality. Time to focus on expanding the playoffs to make promotion and relegation more exciting. That's possibly the most interesting change our league could stand to approve.

I get why many Celtic men are happy to see the jambo's suffer, their hate of our club borders on obsessive
But
I think tynecastle is a great ground and will be sad we won't be visit next season.

If the best we can hope for is a revamp of the play-offs to boost interest and competitiveness for league positions, how might that look?

Right now, we have auto promotion/relegation for 1st and last
Straight swap Championship winners replace 12th placed Premiership team.
And play off for 2nd in the Championship with the 11th in the Premiership.
One off game, winner takes the spot
It offers interest for teams sitting 2, 3 spots off 11th
Likewise, for teams close to 2nd in the Championship.
It’s also a money spinner so everyone wins. £££

If having an expanded top league is a no-go, can the play-off be expanded to make competition for position stronger?
There is still a middle zone where competition really drops off. I expect apathy kicks in about 7th -9th and fans won’t bother if it’s 7th or 8th, but 6th is much better than 7th for obvious reasons.
Our League doesn’t have 5 CL spots and multiple EL spots to entice teams to aim for glory. But last season’s improvement is there to be seen for many and we are capable of changing our coefficient nationally given the time to do it. So, who knows. Maybe in a season or two there will be more spots to play for to increase our global exposure.
I have read a few comments stating how tedious and complicated the EPL play off is, but most there like it and see its benefit. Are we missing out not having it?

Reconstruction is a non-starter, but a play-off revamp might still happen.

Is there any support for something like this?
Every team lamenting the failure to provide a reconstruction proposal which might pass a vote would likely vote for this. Only bottom half top 6 would want to shoot it down by my estimates.
It provides some matches with new teams shaking things up
Games are like cup finals with real competition and edge so interest would be high.
Possibility of promotion/relegation so nerves on edge.
