Any stats on home advantage during covid?

The covid-19 crisis has seen games played behind closed doors without any crowds present. It is often claimed the crowd gives home teams an advantage that leads to better results. Without crowds it should at the moment be possible to quantify, if any, the advantage playing games at home gives.

So, has there been any stats to date to see if home advantage due to crowds actually exists? For example, have Sheffield United only gained 1.2 points per home game on average during this time compared to 1.5 points per game on average when crowds are present that could be an indicator of an advantage? Has Man United secured less points on average at Old Trafford now than normally? Conversely, have teams who traditionally feel pressure at home done better without a crowd such as Newcastle/Aston Villa?

Factors that might affect findings are it's near the end of the season when teams might not be trying as much, fitness after a prolonged lay off, or inexperienced players being given a chance (like Williams for Liverpool). It could also show if places that are notoriously difficult to travel to like Stoke actually influence the results of games or if the crowd is the main factor.

It certainly would be interesting to know for certain if home advantage is real or not. The more games played the stronger the certainty and it could be something seen in all the leagues in Europe etc. that would also confirm this hypothesis. I'm sure there will be university boffins looking at this.

Plus, all black lives matter.

Bundesliga stats showed a reduction in home advantage both in results and effect on refereeing decisions.

Interesting. So there could be a home advantage due to the presence of a crowd. Wonder what that translates to points on average or if seen in the Premier League too?

Wasn't that just in the first couple of weeks then it went back to normal? I'm sure I read that.

Don't know but if it shows the refs being influenced then that could be flagged as a problem.

I don't think refs are influenced too much. They just make mistakes. Some more than others. However I think players are influenced by fans on your side and of course playing in your own stadium which you're used to.

If the crowd noise is influencing the ref then maybe they should wear earplugs.

This article suggests no change in home advantage in the PL.

I used to do that while reffing under 12 matches put my earphones on and listen to some music so I don’t have to listen to parents and coaches wailing and can just ref on what I see.

Would take them out to speak if I had to 1:1 but when the kids say “you can’t hear me” I say, I don’t need to. Just play the game.

...and part of home advantage. Thats part of the home crowds job, to put pressure on and influence the ref (& opposition)
