What a Season

What a Season we're having, bit topsy turvy but that's Football.

At Least 5th Place

European Football Next Year

Well done Brendon and the Lads

You can't throw away something you didn't have, that's why it's a Season, can't just pick a point and say you failed if you don't stay at that point.

You wallow in misery, I'll celebrate an excellent Season.

Highest ever finish in the Premier League outside of winning the Title.

Playing in Europe Next Season

Breaking the Top Six

Club record winning streak in the Premier League.

Vardy potentially winning the Golden Boot

Multiple players at the top or near the top of the Stats.

Yeah you're right, we're right sh!te we are.

Glass half full if you like.....
When Leicester win my dinner and wine just taste better!

I get this from both perspectives and IMO the it isn’t necessarily about the glass being half full or empty but rather, than people are drinking from different glasses with regard to this debate.

In terms of the ‘season’, I think Trueblue is absolutely right. It’s specifically designed to be black and white (in theory ...cough...VAR) in terms of standings and achievements. From this perspective, it makes diddly squat difference when and where teams got their points. Where they finish is where they deserve to finish. Qualification for Europe and relegation is factual and deserved from a statistical perspective (broadly speaking and putting aside subjective opinions on VAR decisions etc).

I think the other glass being drunk from relates to concerns relating to form, progression and possible decline. If there is a time-based competition based around who can climb furthest up a mountain which is reflected on a table of results, you can extract simply how heigh someone reached at the end of the time (or any single point during the climb) . If it’s evidenced through photographs, and there is a snapshot of where one reaches at the end of the duration - opinions on progress and future climbs may be different if the person is photographed mid-fall rather than in the process of climbing steadily with the potential to reach the top of more time had been allowed.

This is a bit of a crude analogy but I think shows that being happy about our final position this season and concerned about our progression and momentum into the next one don’t necessarily have to be antonyms.

My own opinion is, like many I imagine, that it is far more nuanced that either climbing steadily or hurtling down into oblivion. I think we’ve had/are having a blip but this is only really a blip when you compare it to the brilliant form and football of early in the same campaign and I’m sure there will be another thread, at some point, to discuss the reasons (some perhaps more optimistic than others) for this stumble and stutter just before the finish line.

Yes, I’ve just barfed up analogies all over this thread - apologies.

Probably the best performance after lockdown. And remember we are without:
Chilwell
Ricardo
Soyunchu
Madisson

4 first teamers generally plus others missing

Don't forget through this extended period of poor form we've also missed Vardy and Ndidi from being available as well at times.

Agree and like your barfed analogies KTF1 👍

That's true, my point is that so many people seem to be saying it's still not a fantastic Season to have achieved what we have.

Obviously there have been issues, players and the Manager since before Xmas but that doesn't negate the success this Season.

Interesting stats on form,

We're 3rd at Home

7th on Away Form

The table does not lie..... To be honest, I would prefer the FA Cup. All things considered, what is Delia Smith cooking tonight? Canary Au Van?

Yea I agree with you it is a successful season, we have a good start which raises the hopes of the team at some point we're even considered as league title contenders upto December before slump in form. But overall it's a good season to challenge the traditional top six and potentially now a place in Europe and Vardy aiming for the golden boot, great season I should say.

The headline is spot on, but I can also understand the frustration of some posters.

If you had asked any Foxes supporter before the season if they would be happy with us being in 4th place, two matches to go, European football effectively guaranteed and still with a chance to get into the Champions League next season, I cannot see that anybody would have said that's not good enough - I believe everybody would have been ecstatic at that prospect.

So why the occasional negativity in some posts? The way we're ending the season has many worrying facets, here are some:
- average points per game for the first half of the season was 2.21, that was form challenging the top of the table, let alone 4th spot; second half is 1.18 points per game, which is form that should just about keep you out of relegation, definitely not the form that we want to take into the next season when we will have the challenge of playing extra matches;
- Ricardo's long term injury, little doubt in my mind that we would have cemented a top 4 spot by now if he'd stayed fit;
- Some weird tactical choices from Brendan - such as starting with two DMs against Brighton, and swapping a midfielder for an attacking player at half time against Bournemouth;
- the second half collapse against Bournemouth showing worrying fragility.
I could go on (eg lack of recruitment in January, losing key players in the summer transfer window etc) but you get my drift, plenty there to be concerned about.

I'm happy with where we are, I try and stay optimistic, eg we haven't seen 2DMs since Brighton so maybe Brendan has learnt a lesson there, also we have a summer of recruitment to address some of the issues with the squad. As a final fillip, a very assured debut from Luke Thomas at LB gives a bit of hope for the future there.
