We scored 3 could easily have scored 8 with wellbeck upfront. Defensively we gave them chances but second half they scored 3 goals from 4 attacks.

Football is a funny old game from 0-0 to 2-0 within in 2 minutes of the first goal going in then concede 2 in 2 minutes then concede a penalty for nothing, then have 3 chances in stoppage time with 1 going in wellbeck just past post and berbatov should have shot across goal for easy tap in for wellbeck I believe instead of shooting wide.

Yeah, the ref was a bit rubbish - but let's be honest, it was our team's performance that lost us points tonight, Basle might easily have been out of sight regardless of any refereeing errors.
Personally I was more irked by his obstructing United players on several occasions.

It's rather a shame that the result will obscure the fact that De Gea had an excellent game with some outstanding saves. Still, I suppose it could be seen as a good thing that for one game at least he is not the subject of intense scrutiny and criticism.

De gea should have saved one of there goals were he got a hand. De gea didn't have much to do apart from make 2 saves.

Very annoyed with our performanve and defending which was comical at times... it wont be that bad again!

In regards to the ref, he was dire.... i've never seen a ref block so many of our players off, some of his decisions were bad but i couldnt beleive the amount of times he got in the way.

A referee is supposed to have 1 line on the pitch, corner flag to corner flag, last nights was all over the place.

Heh, I did find myself getting annoyed at the referee - simply because I was also so narked at how sheet we were playing.

It was one of those nights to forget that - thankfully - don't come along too often.

Quick query: Can the ref ever halt / restart play based on his own interference? That attacking pass in the last ten minutes that he 'cut out' was an example of where I'd hope he'd be able to do a 'drop ball' or something?

No; the referee is considered in the same way as a corner flag or a goalpost; they are part of the pitch and consequences of any detrimental interaction from them is just hard luck. One would think however that a decent ref would be positioning himself so as to minimise the chances of accidental obstruction; getting in the way of a firmly struck pass at short range is one thing, but obstructing players - and with the frequency he did - seems remarkably amateurish to me.

And hafijur (U6578), if you thought DG only made two saves you really weren't paying enough attention.

What just like everyone who complains when the ref gets it wrong when its their team but says nothing when it goes for them. Being a Arsenal fan mate you lot have had as many bad one's as we have in the past.
