Prescient!

I did an article early in the season when Ole was getting flak right left and center. I said then that we should stick with Ole as he will give us a good squad playing in the image of teams of yore. He however, is not likely to be the manager who gets us top place again but will put in right foundation for the next guy. Tactically he can do better.

Wonder what everyone's views are now that the season has ended. Robb as usual was on his get the manager out agenda then.

I’m not saying Maguire is a failure, I’m saying that for what we paid and what we needed I dont think he’s the solution. But he’s done ok and seems to have the sort of character we need, I wouldn’t necessarily call that a success though.

We overpaid for him, but I disagree with the rest. We needed a leader, an organiser who could come into the defence and play most games. Ideally someone who was British. He fitted the bill very well. Which is why we were prepared to overpay.

No doubt we overpaid bit to me he is what we needed. Now we need to get a quicker CB and one who can defend to partner him instead of Lindelof.

For the fee we paid for James it was worth the risk, I doubt he’s on high wages either so I can imagine we can move him on if we want.

AWB is an odd one because we all knew his game lacked a lot going forward but he does at least seem to be trying in that department. Defensively he’s been great.

James I think will develop into a decent squad player.

AWB is looking a bit better moving forwards. No surprise that he has looked better since Bruno arrived. That said, I think he put a lot of decent balls into the box early in the season without any reward, as we didn't have any forwards attacking the 6 yard box.

Yes he’s a leader and an organiser (which we’ve needed) but he’s also limited as a defender and will likely be shown up against better teams imo. We’re trying to build a team that can relatively soon compete at the top so that for me means if we are going to pay a world record fee for a CB he should be top quality.

We have a pretty decent record against the better teams this season. We just need to get someone with some pace alongside him.

Let’s see next season, gonna be a big season for a lot of clubs. I expect City to improve as well as Chelsea and Arsenal. Then there’s the CL where we will hopefully play against some good sides.

Maguire’s had some good performances but he has also looked dodgy at times and his pace will always be an issue.

Pace had always been an issue for Hummels. It hasn’t stopped him from being a good CB for Dortmund and Germany.

Maguire hasn’t ever reached Hummels’ level though. And his pace was actually often highlighted by oppoenents.

With Maguire, we knew we were over paying by at least 20m. I was against his signing as I was worried about his lack of speed. But overall, he has been a success and has played every PL game this season. None of our other CBs for the past few years have managed to stay fit for the whole season.

AWB, if you saw him before we signed him, you'd know what we were getting. He did improve on his attacking side until the last few games. I think like many others, he was tired.

James, for the price and overall, I would argue he has done OK. He's mainly played on the right or up top when we used the 3412 formation. He made his name for Swansea and Wales playing in his favoured LWF and I see him more as a bench player. He still has parts to his game that he can refine and improve, but overall I'm happy with him so far.

And there is nothing morw to say or add about Bruno.
