Ampadu

MOTM last night and a player I like when I've seen him, the big thing for me is an old head on young shoulders, alot like gilmour he's willing to take responsibility despite his stature and age. We seem to be desperate to get rice back and for huge money but do we have an alternative already in the squad with ampadu? Both can operate in midfield or centre back, similar height and stature and playing style. Do we save 80 mil and give ampadu a chance to impress this year, he's already been vocal about wanting to stay and fight for his place which I really like.

The loan in Bundesliga didn’t work out as the would have hoped for him. Not sure what happened, as he’s obviously a very talented and expected him to do well on loan there

I’m sure what happened, he wasn’t good enough yet to start for a team that is title challenging for the Bundesliga - why anyone (as in our club) would think different sending him on loan there is baffling

I read somewhere earlier that he had suffered a series of injuries that hindered his opportunities. I'll see if I can find a link.

He seems to be really talented, but just seems a couple of inches too short to be a commanding centre back in the premier league (and the Bundesliga if his loan is anything to go by).

'Do we save 80 mil and give Ampadu a chance to impress this year,'

I don't see any harm in doing that, with Ampadu this season.
Assess whether it is worth using him as a viable squad option for the foreseeable or splurging on Rice, at the end of the season.

Suspect he is more than good enough to stake a claim and fills a need in midfield and/or defence to my mind at present and in the future.
Always felt that way regarding Ampadu.

Fingers crossed Ampadu has overcome the back pains, caused by growth spurts. Height has increased by quite a bit, over the past year or so.

From what I've seen of both players, Ampadu with his mobility and intelligence makes Rice look like a donkey. Sorry Mason!
£80 mil. for Rice? Please be telling me, what is point?

Ampadu in theory is everything Frank would desire from a player in defence and midfield.

Always shows for the ball, vocal (leader on the pitch), versatile, willingness in using his unfavored left-foot to play through the lines, switch play and not look awkward doing so.

Nurturing is all it takes to reach next levels and turn him into a valuable player.

I don't know why we are looking at Rice. If we spend more money, I'd like Upamecano and Donnaruma (or Oblak).

Lastly...proactive and aggressive out of the possession. All desirable traits.

Ampadu over Rice anyday. What is this obsession with Rice. There's better ways to spend £80m and I can't see Gold and Sullivan getting anywhere near that for him.
