Just been knocked out of the cup by a team that have barely won 5 games this year. U23's are not good enough, they are not the answer to covering for injuries or replacing players out of form in the senior side. Despite having 8 games less, we still decided to throw the tie.
We had a rookie left back playing centre back, we had a 17 year old debutant at centre back, we had a rookie centre back playing defensive midfield, we had a centre midfielder playing right back ahead of Drameh (rookie) who we spent 4 weeks of this window chasing!
Have a small squad, fine. But why can't we have a SQUAD of senior players with a small handful of youths instead of a barge load of average ones. Holding, Tanzuabe, Chambers, Van de Hoorn should be the calibre of our 3rd, 4th choice centre backs, not 20 year old left backs.
We could have signed the likes of Woods, Rinomhota Reed to play DM when Phillips is out, yet we played a teenage center back.
Club needs to ditch this nonsense policy of signing boys for a man's game.
Fingers crossed we don't get Yeovil or Marks and Spencer in the FA cup

Not really sure what the thinking was, very few of the team were on their game and too many young players, people played out of position (no idea what Shackleton's best position is but it certainly isn't right back, where was Casey playing?), passes going astray (Douglas kicked the ball into touch on a few occasions), strange changes (what was the thinking when he brought Gotts on for Bogusz). It was just weird.

That's irrelevant surely. To me that was Bielsa's final capitulation. Not a sign it was a good decision more an indication of how poor the rest of his selections were.

You won't find a bigger than me but Wednesday night was a mess.
Anyway it's done now and at least he has had a full week to work on ironing out some of the defensive issues from last week and building on the stuff we did well.
A dangerous game Saturday with the expectation level swinging from one extreme to the other and that can present a challenge.
Absolutely key that we are tight at the back as with our energy and movement further up the pitch chances will come along.
