Wolves play a 343 or 352 system with wing backs and their wingers are used differently than we do. Jota played more as a second striker who drifts in the left channels or plays off Jimenez.

Our wingers start wide and end in the box when our fullbacks are on the ball.
He has the tools to succeed with us.

nobody is saying he won’t succeed. I’m not anyway, I think he’s a quality player. But there are no comparisons with Mane whatsoever.

He actually started wide when we play 343 and drifts inside. He has spent most of his time with us playing that way. He also used to pull out wide to the left when we were without the ball when playing in a forward two.

He is nothing like Mane. If he has a playing style anything like a top wide forward it would be Hazard. In that he plays in pockets of space on the half turn, has a low centre of gravity and tussles with defenders and likes to run at defenders rather than run in behind.

You can keep comparing him to Mane if you want, but it won't stop your comparisons being stupid.

To be fair the mane comparisons are relevant in that everyone told us how consistent mane was and plenty were absolutely pssing themselves laughing at the signing. Cut forward a few years and they're now praying he moves to Real. If it is down to Klopp management/ our system bringing the best out of wide attackers then there's every possibility Jota could come on leaps and bounds.

But we need to calm the excitement and expectations a bit as there's absolutely no guarantee the same will happen as with Mane and maybe we are getting an inconsistent good player who will very much go the way of Shaqiri.

The best bit about this transfer for me is that we don't NEED it to work. Were like united of a decade or so ago. Granted our finances aren't as free and easy as theirs but we are able to bring in players and not care if they take an age to get going or even if they flop. Just move them on and try again while still being one of the best teams around. It's so refreshing after decades and having to lob money around and pray every signing works or it's another season of nothing and try again.

I think the best bit about the transfer is that Nuno Espírito Santo says that Jota is going to the right place.

That is literally the manager of the club telling the player it will be a great move for him.

When you have another manager saying that, it will make people sit up and notice.. that’s all down to Klopp - a manager that players with something to prove love playing for.

Only poor thing for both Thiago, Jota and Kostas is that they will have to wait many months before being welcomed by the fans.

Apparently, the reason Nuno has let him go is he wants to evolve the style of play Wolves have from counter attacking to possession based. He didnt see Jota as well suited to his new system as Podence and Neto, which is the reason that they made this decision. Apparently the decision to sell was made earlier in the summer.
