Defence

Fair enough we let 2 goals in yesterday, one was put on a plate by kepa and the other coming with ten men on the pitch. At 11 v 11 we seemed solid and organised at the back, even with kepa and alonso still on the pitch. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like we're alot better organised currently. Zouma is looking very solid, we're not looking as weak from corners and set pieces which was a massive problem last season. I think James and zouma have both looked good, the sooner we get our settled back 5 with a new keeper, thiago and Chilwell I feel like the defensive issues the media love to bang on about so much will be a distant memory.

Said i thought you’d improve naturally just playing cabellero n kante getting fit n playing n rudiger. That said easiest thing to do in football is parl the bus thats why the lesser teams do it and have success vs the bigger teams. Even arteta can get that arsenal team doing it.

Tomori looked fit again yesterday and was fantstic after he came on. with Thiago to come in and steady the ship things will get better , we played liverpool at a bad time for us but its over now on to WBA. Liverpool didnt look that good either before the red card.

To be fair, Liverpool don't have to 'look that good' to beat most teams in this league.

no team looks that good vs a parked double decker, its not easy, City struggle vs teams that do it. Usually find a way eventually though, and Liverpool did soon as Chelsea weren't deep n compact they got punished, and thats exactly why Lampard was so negative in his line up and tactics because you can't really go toe to toe with Liverpool even Pep changes his style vs us.

Right tactics by frank even with the more expensive squad but its not a great watch when only one team wants to play.

Agree there are signs of improvement (not including Kepa/Alonso). Bit of patience needed for the new incomings in defense to get settled.

Expect a lot of teething problems going forward too. I for one won't be criticising Lamps for experimenting with new systems. Short term pain to be expected to find the best formula.

What's the deal with tomori? Lampard didn't seem to play him much and there was talk about loaning him out right?

I rate him

Hoping to see him used more frequently. Would definitely be ahead of Christensen in most fans' eyes. Hopefully will be in rotation with Silva as Zouma's partner for me.

Not the tallest for a centre back in a fairly diminutive team. Probably fell victim to the defensive frailties from set pieces. He did make a few errors last season but he's young and a new keeper hopefully addresses confidence at the back more than anything else.

You make a lot of sense, JP - but watch out, you’ll be hounded off the site with that kind of optimism.

But yes, we looked a lot better in defence than the whole of last season. I was interested to read that Rudiger was fit, but was then left out of the squad. What do you make of that?

RLC wasn’t in the squad either come to think of it - was he injured or dropped?
