The start of a long goodbye for Azpi...?

https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2020/09/19/-it-s-a-pleasure-to-have-azpi-here-

‘He’s done a great job of being club captain,’ said the boss.

‘Since I’ve been in the role he’s been a huge help to me in terms of how he’s handled himself on and off the pitch, how much he feels for this club, how much he communicates with the squad.

‘We can all see the quality of Reece James and the competition I have in that right-back position. Azpi’s professionalism means he is going to be as important for us this year as he always is.

I can’t ask players who are as competitive as Azpi to be content with missing one game,’ added Lampard.

‘Every player should be really keen to play every game; I know Azpi is like that. I know that from playing with him. But when you have someone like Azpi, with the qualities he has as captain, I know he gives everything, whether he plays or sometimes he doesn’t, he will have the same positive impact on the group off the pitch. That’s all I can ask for, and it’s a pleasure to have him.

Seems so.

Why did you make of the game yesterday ?
I thought it was a flat performance from us

Frank rightly or wrongly played it conservative. Stifled Liverpool.
Tactics were reasonable (don't want to be playing like that all that time and I'm sure that wont be the case when key players are at their optimal fitness).

Frank has been accused and castigated of not being able to play it "safe" and compact, that myth has been put to bed.

I understand the idea behind it, nothing wrong with being pragmatic given the circumstances, but you have to have the right players to implement it. Neither of our midfield three were able to pick up Werner’s run. Hence, his plan was doomed to fail.

Arteta’s success against Pool recently worked, because not only his players were disciplined off the ball, but he’s also had players who were able to pick up Aubameyang’s runs.

I thought Christensen had a good game until that laps of concentration. As he good as he is, he appears to be prone to lapses of concentration a bit often for my liking, and doesn’t seem to have learned from his past mistakes !!!

Back on topic. I thought Lamps could’ve played Azpi on the left. I know Alonso didn’t do much wrong, but at the same he didn’t offer much on the offensive part. I thought Azpi could have provided a better outlet on that left hand side.

And who does Lampard persist with Mount on the wing, when he has players who are natural wingers ?

Don’t see why Alonso should be playing over Azpi

I am quite surprised we have gone into the season with Azpi not starting at RB or LB. Don’t mind focusing on James more at RB but with Chilwell out and against Liverpool Azpi arguably has role to play as starter

Azpi was injured during the FA Cup final. He’s just getting back to fitness.
