Counter intuitive

So, that was an exciting transfer deadline day! The suspense is just too much for me these days.

But transfer drama aside, and once we get over the devastation of losing Ghezzal, is it just me who is a little worried about the Villa game?

So after watching West Ham take us apart on the counter, I then tuned in to watch Liverpool take on Villa. Entertained by Villa’s impressive start, I then was quite amazed as they played through Liverpool’s counter press and destroyed them on the break. Wow. Like a better version of what we did to Man City and what West Ham did to us.

Then I thought, I wonder who Villa have got next. And it dawned on me!

So, anyone else worried that if we set up to do what Liverpool do well slightly less well, Villa will absolutely destroy us too. I’m genuinely worried about it. Can we execute our tactics better than the best team in the land, or do we need to change it? But then we sit deeper and have no creativity against a well organised Villa and lose 1 nil.

What do we do? Help?!

I’m pleased that Pearson didn’t end up there as I would have suddenly found myself taking a grudging interest in their progress, which would have felt uncomfortable.

Chris Hughton seems like a good appointment that ticks all the right boxes.

Well... . But the fact is that if we were in Forest's position then we'd be very happy with the appointment.

I think the big problem Hughton's going to have is they look a long way off promotion right now. End of next season at the earliest, and that's likely very optimistic given the sheer number of signings that need to be turned into a team and simply aren't at the moment. If I was to put together a timeline, it'd be one year to gel and stay up, one year to fail and learn, then the next year make the step up and reach for the promised land. Will any manager be given 3 years at Forest without promotion?

13 managers in 9 years would suggest he'll be lucky to get the rest of this season, let alone 2 more. Personally, even though it's Forest, I hope he does well, I've always rather liked him. He's certainly got a decent record in the Championship.

My thoughts were that this is a meritorious appointment, rather than one forced by some arbitrary rule - but would still please those who like to measure certain quotas.

Admittedly you couldn’t have inferred all of that from one:
