BCFC 2 DUFC 6

The league cup has kicked off this week and United had what looks like a convincing win against the worst team in the league system, Brechin City.

I didn't tune in to 'Hedge TV' (the actual name that they use for their screenings) but by all accounts the score papers over many cracks, particularly the usual problems in central defence. We seem incapable of going through games without trying to gift goals to the opposition. By all accounts a better team than Brechin could have scored four or five.

As it was it was us that was more ruthless in front of goal. Braces from Nicky Clark and Cammy Smith, with goals from Butcher and Harkes sandwiched between these goals, sealed the win.

Again, although I didn't see the game I'm hearing that Appere once again failed to make any impact. I'm a bit worried about him at the moment - any confidence he gained from last season seems to have evaporated. I'd be loathe to seem him loaned out as we don't have a big squad, but perhaps that's what he needs to build up his confidence again.

Good to see Cammy Smith in amongst the goals but I've lost hope that he'll ever get a run of games for us, despite the fact that I think he's a natural goalscorer.

Elsewhere in our group, St Johnstone scraped home with a 2-1 win against Kelty Hearts.

We entertain Peterhead on Saturday in our next group fixture, then again welcome Kelty to Tannadice on Tuesday. We then complete our fixtures in November with a trip to Perth.

Ivan, in my desperation due to having a week off work next week and unable to do anything in Glasgow, we're thinking of booking a night in Dundee....looking at Apex city Quay hotel, know anything about that or reccomend any hotels? What has struck me is how cheap the hotels are!!

Was also looking at the Landmark hotel which was a doubletree hilton but think that's a bit further out.

That Apex is really nice and is really handy for town, V&A, Discovery Point etc. There’s a Hampton by Hilton which is even more central, it’s nearer the restaurants/bars on the Hawkhill (not that anyone is allowed to drink these days). The Doubletree one isn’t really handy for anything, like you say it’s quite far out of town.

rnr - yeah Apex is a decent enough hotel and right in the middle of town. Also gives free parking, whereas a lot of the other hotels in town don't.

As with everywhere, you'll need to get booking things if you want food/drink. If you do go let me know and I'll try and find out what's doing outside seating for you.

Given that I'll be in Aberdeen, he'll have to have an awfully big willie to pump me from the Apex in Dundee
