Evidence to keep Mikel?

What evidence do the board have that suggests Mikel will turn this around?. They’re saying that they fully back him and even after yesterdays poor showing it looks as though he is under no pressure!. Our worst start since 74-75, our lowest goals ratio , our lowest shots on goal, leaking goals left right and centre. Zero creativity, worst squad in Modern times.

Can we even trust that we will do the right business in January!. People say that Willian was Edu’s deal yet Mikel consistently plays him no matter how much he lets us down. The guy ain’t performing and past his best. I’m also convinced that Xhaka would still be starting if he didn’t receive that red. So now it seems that Mikel is now making the same mistakes the last two managers have made. Why should he get more time!. I can’t see us turning this around, so much is wrong at this club.

These are our fixtures between now and the end of January. If we are not out of the bottom ten by the start of Feb then I think Arteta is in serious trouble

26/12 Chelsea Home
29/12 Brighton Away
02/01 West Brom Away
14/01 Crystal Palace Home
18/01 Newcastle Home
26/01 Southampton Away
30/01 Man Utd Home

This seasons showings suggest that FA cup win was moreso the honeymoon period of happiness at new management, with all players giving him their all in an effort to get on board. Than a case of coaching/leadership brilliance from Arteta. Failing to play AMN either ahead of Bellerin or in MF, repeatedly selecting Willian, freezing Nelson out of the 1st 11, selling Emi and persisting with a strategy which is both unsuitable to the players he has and failing miserably.

Those things are all glaringly obvious mistakes that he's repeatedly failing to rectify whilst be able to do so. I'd sack him based purely on the fact that he's not changed a damned thing tactically since the start of the season. To have not at least TRIED different player combos or strategy, just to see if it improved things. Is absolutely insane given our results. IMO to the point of plain incompetence. Sack him now and a good manager can still get something out of this season. If we don't get him out of here before Jan, then barr an outside shot at Europa, the season will be a total bust as early as beginning of Feb.

I said after losing to Wolves that I would be prepared to give him December to turn it around and if he doesnt we should let a new manager have the say on who we buy in January. Since then we have lost 3 and drawn 1. 1 point from 12 available. We really could end up relegated on this form. For me that is enough. Barring wins against Man C, Chelsea and Brighton which lets face it isnt going to happen he has to go.

The three key factors in this for me are the results, the players look utterly depressed and the football is just so negative and boring. There are others as well but these are the key ones for me.

selling Emi ----------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the things I really liked about Emi was he was always vocal and always teling his defence what he wanted from them. Part of a gk's job is to orgnise their defence and Emi was one of the best at this, the best I have seen at Arsenal since Seaman. I started to have doubts about whether this was the difference between last season and this season. Emi organising from the back and ball distribution. It seems far fetched, but I just cant help but wonder if his contribution really could be the factor that tipped the scales.

This is from his presser this morning.

Arteta: "Last year against Everton we won the game with 25 per cent chance of winning, supported by the stats. We won 3-2. Last weekend it was 67 per cent chance of winning and nine percent of losing - and you lose."

Time to cut loose guys. He's going full Emery before our eyes and it is painful.

I'd say atleast 2-4yrs worth of evidence to show that the biggest problem is the players themselves. I think if we change manager and still have the core of the squad, at best, we'll maybe only see a new manager bounce.

Unless we end up in the relegation zone, then I say we stick with Arteta until the end of the season at the very least. He's made some mistakes - especially with some of his selection choices and tactics, but most of the blames lies on the players on the pitch.

And the fans need to stop being such a bunch of fannies.

Facking down sticks quicker than Ozil against a high press. 🙄

Nah that's dissin' Emery. Man done plenty wrong but be THIS bad was never one of those things. Too many forget he had a weak squad rollin nicely his first year. Games were never this boring and we scored more goals. And just how, is what Arteta SHOULD have paid close attention to, when he arrived. Instead of throwing his weight around givin it the big I am, kicking the kid out the team. Ramsey and Guen were the engines who drove offensive play. Ramsey left and the dumbass sends away a ideal replacement IMO set to be and upgrade on Ramsey soon enough.

Said at the time shutting him out was madness and a huge red flag on Arteta's level of insight. Given that we've acquired Partey, loaning Guen is a mistake almost as big as selling Emi. The man's an idiot AND stubborn. That's really not a combination.

When you have an attacker coming at you full tilt, you're focused on the tackle and sometimes in two minds which way to go. Emi yelling "Show him left!" Now you have no two minds, didn't have to think, could just be fully focused on your tackle. Ball breaks nicely after your tackle and as you're getting up he's yelling "Right side, right side, go go!" Now you dunno wtf's going on, you're not even up off the ground yet let alone reading the now, counter attack. So you just jump up and haul ass to where he's pointing. Surprise you get there and the ball is on it's way into your path and you've had time on the sprint to see what's going on now That whole counter attack, only happens quickly because of the keeper having everyone essentially running on autopilot, just following orders. It's great to play in front of.

Time is a valuable commodity in sport and in footy a vocal keeper who commands his defence strongly, buys you so much of it. That's why Xhaka improved so much in front of Emi. His commanding the defence made sure Xhaka never had to move too far or too quickly. Got plenty of time to make his tackles and was rarely overstretched to do so. It's also why we were better in transition with Emi too. Villa are LAUGHING!
