What came as no surprise to anyone at all, United easily surrendered the three points at Tannadice against a fairly average Hibs team and yet again we fall to defeat.

We're now seven games without a win, one win in 11, we've scored in only 14 of our 30 games.....you get the drift, things aren't going well.

Alot of heated discussion about the manager and his capabilities at the moment, and understandably so. While we would all accept our current league position at the end of the season, I think we all accept it paints a false picture of where we are and the reality is we're in freefall and very much in a relegation battle.

My view on Mellon is that, while there are very much mitigating factors and I've got a bit of sympathy with him, he's clearly not getting the best out of what is admittedly a very limited pool of players.

And the players are in the main Championship players. This was a team with only 1 win in 9 as we finished our Championship campaign last season. The difference was that last season we were creating two or three chances per game for Shankland to score. This season we're lucky if we create one good chance throughout the 90 minutes.

Going through the squad, who is honestly good enough for this level? Siegrist, Shankland, possibly McNulty (although I'm not sold on him) and Fuchs (who hasn't played many games). The rest are either bang average players or, worse, utter scheidt.

In a covid-free world, we'd all have agreed that a major overhaul of the squad was needed in the summer. That didn't come and you can understand why. But we desperately, desperately need players to be brought in and United need to give the manager funds today to sign at least one or two players - ideally a number 10 and a winger, and a centre half if Edwards goes. I'm not optimistic.

If we don't get anybody in then we absolutely have to revert back to the eyebleedingly bad 5 at the back. It's the only way we'll stay up with this squad.

This has been a painful season and I don't think it's going to get any better.

I think 2 more wins would guarantee your safety Ivan so don’t believe a relegation battle is likely.

Are the play offs still on this season?
A wee Dundee derby would be grand

I'm not sure to be honest with you. It's hard to read when teams have games in hand and both Motherwell (who we play this week) and Ross County look like they have wins in them.

I'm nervous about it all.

I honestly don’t have anything to add to that, so I’m just going to give you five stars for summing things up so well.

Why do we have a squad with no wingers and no attacking midfielders? Why was that allowed to happen?

Our squad building has been dreadful for years. We've been imbalanced since the relegation year and no manager has ever really sorted it.
