Marcelo and Leeds

Around 5 years ago, when Pep went to City, I wrote an article on here asking why so called “elite" managers or coaches wouldn’t want to take a step away from big money clubs and take hold of an average team/players and actually show their worth in improving them.

Watching Leeds Utd in the Premier League personally has been exceptionally gratifying. To have a coach with a huge reputation come and do what he’s done is phenomenal. The players have completely bought in knowing he wants them to play at Leeds and improve under him. The impact he’s had is immense.

From game 1 v Liverpool to last night, every game has been a delight to watch (other than maybe v Brighton)....the pundits and media are all over us and we seem to be everyone’s favourite team to watch. Having all those players from 3 years + ago on the field performing the way they do is testament to Bielsa’s coaching and I think should be demanded more of these carousel managers who go around job to job, picking up massive payouts for what exactly?

Long may this reign continue because watching my team now puts a massive smile on my face.

If you are talking overpaid managers, have to include Parker and Bruce.

Bielsa does command a lot in wages but he also reportedly did research on the club and city before taking the job. Bilbao, Marseille, Leeds - all regional clubs with strong identities.

West Ham tried to get him before but he didn't like the job so it's not just the money

Dont disagree, i like him. He has old school mentality mixed with modern methods of playing the game.

But he was and is paid a fortune for a championship team (well they were when he accepted).

It's a misconception.

I think you'll find that the money he is paid covers himself and all his background staff. I think you will find Bielsa will work out as one of the lower paid managers in the premier league.

It's a bit late now, but I'll try and find an article which mentions this in the morning

Still too much.

Is there any current manager who has improved players to the extent Bielsa has? Bamford, Klich, Dallas, KP, Ayling, Coops, and Alioski are unrecognisable from where they were 3 years ago. This is what makes his achievements so impressive. What a shame he never got to work with Chris Wood.

Regarding wages i believe he pays all his staff from his pot and there's a fair few and knowing the man as we do i wouldnt imagine they are on peanuts,

He takes care of paying all the coaching and backroom staff on that deal, his wage will be one of the lowest in the prem. I'm sure that'll change next season though.

We look like finishing mid table, so the resources for next season will likely be for a European push

Wouldn’t it be great if Marcelo accepted a seat on the board when he’s done managing ... btw, hope that’s not for several years yet!😁
