Some of the chat around Roofes charge has confused me no end.
I have heard various discussions on this in recent weeks - one of which was on SSB. When discussing Roofes tackle Gordon Duncan was at pains to point out that intent doesnt matter - it is the outcome and whether you endanger an opponent or not.
For me Roofe was trying to plant his foot on the other side of the ball and stick his erchie out to protect it. He isnt the physically biggest but you can see this is something he does reasonably frequently during games to try and protect the ball. I have read/heard comments generally in agreement - no real malice in it but the outcome was ugly and a red could easily have resulted.
However minutes later when discussing Scott Browns one against Killie Duncan completely contradicted himself and said in Browns defence that 'its about intent - Brown just meant to hold the man off and accidentally caught him in the face'.
Whilst I am sure we will all agree Brown is a bit of a master at 'accidentally' catching folk with his arms I agree he didnt deserve a red on this occasion as I didnt think there was much in it.
Then you have the West Ham incident where Soucek was sent off (after multiple VAR reviews so this one was the worst) for accidentally catching Mitrovic as he tried to pull his arm out the way. Fair enough no intent - most fans wouldnt want to see players sent off for that.
Then there is Darren MacGregor - he throws Kamara to the deck and then ends up standing on him on the way over. Now this brings me back to Roofe. There is a clear argument that the painful outcome of Roofes challenge was as a result to win the ball.
With MacGregor - whilst there was not a seemingly intentional stamp - he created the situation that then lead to an outcome that looked every bit as ugly and painful as Roofes. And he created that situation himself by throwing a player to the ground - for which he got a yellow card. So for me it was far more reckless than Roofes and he endangered an opponent to a very similar degree.
I am not defending Roofe or slating Brown or MacGregor - it just seems to me that the rules are absolutely all over the place.
I would favour the more sensible and pragmatic approach - its a physical game - sometimes well intended tackles go a bit wrong then Roofe and MacGregor get yellows and thats the end of it.
So.....are people clear what the rules actually are regarding 'intent' and what is the basis for citing a player like Roofe for his challenge against St Johnstone?

The CO needs top be looking into why Livi have had yet another match called off. It is beyond a joke now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The snow out this way is mental. This one I'd let them off with as it's been outrageous since Monday afternoon
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d say it’s different this season they only had to keep pitch clear to get game on as no crowds
Poor show
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was going to say
3 staff phoned in this morning cause the trains are off.
I don't understand how we have this issue every year. Are we just ridiculously cheap in comparison to other countries?

Ireland literally closes down if there's bad snow. Remember the scene from father ted when they talk about taking in the roads because the rain is so bad. It's all we're short of doing

IMO Var should be used to allow the referee to view incidents from a different angle and let him make up his mind.
When you see goals being reviewed and different coloured lines being to prove offside does my head in. Let the ref see it and if he thinks the view shows offside fine but not with coloured lines. Was there one last week when a heel was offside and one with a sleeve offside.
No doubt somebody in a studio really proud of himself.
Used properly a boon for refs.

Tbh I like the lines makes it easier. But as you say using armpits, sleeves etc is a bit much.
Foot or heid.

For Scotland, var light like that is a decent shout.

Does it really matter what the reference point is for drawing the lines?

To some extent no but it does impact the credibility with the wider public.
Surely less argument and more trust if it's foot or heid.
