...or does anyone else see problems with the long term viability of the proposed new super league? I think owners are underestimating how angry the football world is with this news, as well as over estimating the appetite for it.
Of course with the money being pumped in short term benefits are apparent, but with the likely hood that team like Arsenal, Spurs and possibly United or Liverpool (with Klopp a potential casualty) unable to properly compete fans of these clubs used to winning more than losing could lose patience and switch off.
I think/hope it falls flat on it's face. I do hope that the FA, UEFA/FIFA hold firm in their stance against this and ban any participants from their own competition. Neville is right, they are bottlers that will wilt under actual pressure.
Would also like to see the players stand up against this nonsense
Is it just me...

There might not be much appetite in Europe, but fans in the US, middle east, Africa and Far East will lap it up imo. That’s who the ESL is aimed at.

The product will be poor. I actually want them to do it so that it fails and is never thought of again.

Thats why its so disgusting, theyre basically willing to abandon everything and everybody that built these clubs up to where they are for these new fans/markets.
Huge betrayal and a massive two fingers to everyone who contributed to their clubs success over hundreds of years in most cases.

I agree, I’m no financial expert but the money for each club does seem grossly inflated, and not realistic? I mean I guess it must be, it’s clearly something they’ve planned for a long time, got backing from fiscal firms..

I guess comparatively it's watched more around the world and with the best will in the world the majority of those fans don't care have as much passion as genuine local/hardcore fans so it'll still be massive.
Very worrying times indeed.

This is the point I was making earlier, really. Fans from outside the UK and Ireland only care about games vs the top six and the CL, they’re not bothered about the history surrounding, for example, Manchester United vs Newcastle. The games being sterile and glorified exhibition events won’t bother them.

Players won't be bothered. It's all money driven. Players don't earn that much through internationals these days anyway, why earn x amount playing an international game when you can earn 3x through wages in the ESL, not including the fact this competition is global and they will receive many sponsorships from all over.
If UEFA, FA's etc ban all these clubs from their competitions, does that really mean anything? It only gives these clubs more reason to set up on their own and could eventually do what they want. This isn't down to heritage, history, integrity etc. It's all down to money. If banning them means they can set up on their own for more money, they will do it.

I think this is bollox. 90% of the players will want to play for their national team, or in the PL (English players).

I am looking forward to United receiving an extra £200m a season. We can spend this money to take the club to new levels, by increasing our dividends to the glazers, bonus to woodward, player wages and agent fees by £200m a season.

Where is the interest in watching if there is no fear of relegation, no award except more money for the winners. Football keeps its magic because of leagues.

It’s not the best analogy obviously, but regarding the debate around players taking increased wage vs international football/clubs not in ESL, most successful players playing in Europe could probably accept a move to the Middle East, or China and be able to x2 or x3 their wage in the process. Of course, some players do, but not all.
If ESL actually goes through with a ban on those players doing international, it’ll probably be a mix of players staying at normal club level and those doing ESL.
I’ve also just thought there’s a slight risk ESL becomes a league for those who are nearing the middle-end of their international career who would not accept the extra money.
