GARNER’S BACK

https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/transfer-news/breaking-james-garner-nottingham-forest-5817752

Sadly I fear this loan has come to late.

If young Garner is gonna have a positive impact (which of course I hope he does) then this business should’ve been done weeks ago.

Of course it might have been out of our hands with Man Utd not letting the young lad go, but we have already wasted 12 points and a team serious about promotion cannot afford to do that.

As far as the season is concerned I think promotion is no longer an option and our first port of call is to get it off the bottom the division and away from the relegation zone.

It’s such a shame, when at the end of the season, fine margins will determine things - throwing away 12 points will no doubt affect us, and even if we do manage not to get relegated, another wasted season looms because of poor decision making from those in charge, and I’m not just talking about CH, he’s had his hands tied, and those above him are as culpable for this miserable failure just as much as those who take the pitch every week

It’s an absolute sad state of affairs

I don't think the fault can be put at our door for the delay in this one. United kept him for pre-season whilst other players returned and also wouldn't let him go until he signed a new contract.

I think the club should be praised for getting their main target in, rather than moving on to a 'plan b' which wouldn't have been as good.

He's highly rated at United, so they wanted him signed to a new contract before going out on loan. So it was out of Forest's hands.

How was he last season?

He was with us from January till the end of the Season - and he was head and shoulders above our entire squad, an absolute quality playmaker

You have a real talent in him, but whether he’ll cut it in the Premier League or in the United team is still an unknown quantity - but you ask any Forest supporter what they think of him, and every one of them will tell you he’s our signing of the season so far, albeit on loan

Garner matured somewhat with us last season & it's a great relief that he's come back on loan.

I don’t think we had much choice but to throw away the points Rev. The squad was never good enough at the start of preseason. Transfers this season have happened so late because of COVID and the Euros. It was impossible to get the better players in any earlier. I don’t think you can blame CH or Forest. It’s just unlucky.

Of course we could have got some better results than we have and picked up one or two points. However, we were never gonna do much with that squad. Hopefully we will pick up a few more players before the window ends and then let’s see where we are.

It is utterly ridiculous that the season starts before the window ends. I know it’s the same for everyone so not saying it’s unfair, just ridiculous. Forest are possibly one of the clubs most in need of transfers too so it was always going to impact us the most I think.

My frustration isn’t aimed at the manger but those who have ties his hands, withheld funds and been so bloody slow in rectifying such glaring problems we had since last season

It’s not Chris Hughtons fault, and he still have my supports even though it’s thinking out quite a bit

I honestly think we can get a result against Derby next week and kickstart our season

But to still be without a decent fullback and striker is utterly ridiculous

Yep I agree.

The problem is, if he loses 5 in a row then it starts to become untenable because so many fans will want him gone. Even if it’s not the right decision.

It made me laugh that fans were singing SL’s name at the game yesterday. I bet some of them were signing “you don’t know what your doing” at him at the beginning of last season too! Just sums up a lot of our fan base. To be fair it sums up a lot of football fans regardless of the club. Plenty of fans want attacking winning football immediately. Just doesn’t happen like that sadly
