What has changed?

Last season, for the most part performed really well, were hugely exciting to watch, and effective.

What has changed for this season?

Slight personnel changes on the pitch - Alioski gone, Firpo in, James in
Slight personnel changes off the pitch - Berardi and Pablo gone
Crowds back
Bamford out injured
Ayling out injured

From those factors you would think not much difference, but we see now how reliant we were on Bamford's goals and how ineffective Rodrigo has been in this respect. No disrespect to Rodrigo, the reality is he hs not scoring goals as Bamford was, but also Bamford wasn't scoring this season either.

Have other teams worked us out?

I don't think so, I think they would have done their homework, they knew what we were like last season, we were just more effective last season.

I'll repeat that, we were more effective last season.

This season the sharpness isn't there, the speed of transition isn't there, superior fitness and running doesn't seem to be there and we can see that you have slight dip and we can look awful, we have to be on it all the time.

I don't think our players became bad players overnight.

But we lost our main goal threat, we lost 2 very attacking players who helped create threats in terms of Alioski and Ayling and we do not have like for like quality to bring in.

I hope Raphinha is properly fit for Norwich, hope Bamford and Ayling are back soon and hope that U23s can show a bit more than we saw last night.

I was hoping for top 6 after last season's finish but right now will settle for staying in this league, going to be a long fight I feel.

Every team complains about bans.

Struijk being banned does not explain why Rodrigo cant score.

Your covid point is interesting though, I think people really underestimate how debilitating this can be and we assume young fit players will take in their stride.

I lost a customer to this, I had one of my players parents hospitalised for a year, I have another fit and young parent had it and now she feels a different person and won't leave the house now.

True but I think if Strujik played against West Ham we get a point. The issue with this ban in particular was re fact vast majority of country including ex referees pundits and the player himself didn’t even think it arranged a yellow card
----------------------------------------------------------------------
stop whining about it, move on, every club has cards its upset about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whining? It’s an observation and a relevant factor in how our season has gone. Name me another club who suffered missing a key player for 3 games for a good tackle this season. You asked the question what’s changed - unjust suspensions is on that very list

You’ll find that i have been one of the most positive posters on this board something which your good self cannot claim!

If you think continually posting "It's not fair Struijk got banned" and "I can't believe the sh*te people are posting" then knock yourself out.

Every club has cards it doesn't like, every club gets decisions it doesn't like.

Be more like Bielsa, don't moan about it, just move on.

Continually?
I’ve posted once about the sh*te written on one thread which had many posters being generally very negative and in my opinion wrong. Find me a second sh*te and I’ll knock myself one out.

As for Struijk it’s been mentioned on several threads by many people. There have been one or two threads started by different people discussing the number of key refereeing decisions gone against us - if you check back you’ll see that i defended the referees on some of the points the main thread indicated. I wouldn’t say I’ve “continually”mentioned Struijk being suspended. It clearly came up when it happened. It came up again when someone posted the referee stuff and it’s come up for a third time on what’s changed this season - it’s not like I’ve mentioned it on inappropriate threads.

Looks like you need to change the side of bed your getting out of!

Jonty

You asked people the question about what has changed. Most people have given you an answer and because you don’t like it your saying they are whinging. Shall we all just accept your version of events then?

What’s changed is not having a consistent team out and injuries / suspensions to key players at key times. You state we haven’t had an impact even when we have had a full/near full strength squad - literally 2 games -
Manu and Everton.

Dosnt help when Jonty found himself in the vast vast minority of agreeing with Struijk sending off 🤷🏼‍♂️
Plus the fact he thinks Struijk is sh*te

A player getting a red card this season is not a change from last season, or are you saying we got no red cards last season?

Whining about the red card is not a change either.

Plenty of people have come up with their own version of events already and the thread is all the better for that.

Except that's not what I've said, what I've said is that I don't think Struijk matches up wit the hype about him.

No, I did not say this.

I think you need to read what I actually write, not what you think I write.

This is what I wrote:

"Exactly, we can go on about injuries and bans, but even when at full or nearly full strength it's literally a different side from last season in terms of impact on the opponents."

I have not said we haven't had an impact, what I have said is above and what it means is that we're not having the same impact on opponents as we did last season.

I hope I'm wrong on a possible reason for our drop in performance levels but I don't think you can ignore the Elephant in the room that for most of last season bar a couple of games and the business end of our Championship triumph we played in empty stadiums.

There can be no doubt that with no supporters the pressure is significantly reduced and I do wonder about the temprement of some of our players that have looked like rabbits in the headlights this season.

Being a top player is not just about what you can do skill and pace wise but how you react to pressure. The great players take it in their stride while others can't cope with it and their game just suffers.

How many underperforming players at Leeds have gone to clubs with fewer fans than us with less pressure and have done loads better?

Gelhardt may be young but he looks like a player that thrives on pressure.

KP, Raphina Lorente Meslier and after last weeks penalty I will include Rodrigo plus Shacks and Struiyk and possibly 2/3 of the u23 are to me the only players we have that look like they can handle pressure without it impacting badly on their game.

We all seem to think Bamford Firpo and Ayling coming back will be the answer to our slump in form but they were some of the players that were looking like the full stadiums were affecting their game negatively.

Anyway I hope I'm wrong on this theory because if I'm not then we are definitely in the brown stuff and will need urgent recruitment in January which we are not exactly renowned for doing good business in and without 3 or 4 new players with calm heads we are going to have to rely on the likes of Gelhardt, Summerville, Cresswell and Drameh to dig us out of trouble.

I think majority oil these players have played in front of crowds and the pressure with us in promotion season.

The rest have come from playing front of crowds.

I do think that last season threw up results that were outliers due to lack of crowds and there was a study into this, in terms of how favourites and underdogs fared differently with no crowds present so I believe this definitely a change for this season.

Ultimately the team even when near full strength is not as effective, its Bielsa's job to address that.
