Most of us are following the sad news in Ukraine with heavy hearts. How can Russia out right declare war and invade a totally innocent, neighbouring country causing irreversible damage in all parts of their life.
I've heard lots of first hand accounts on BBC Radio 5 live over the last few days from helpless Brits who are stuck in Ukraine because their wives/girlfriends don't have a UK visa, from students who aren't able to return to their home country and from normal Ukrainian citizens who are compelled to take up arns to defend their cities. And, it's made me really sad 😔.
Last night, Ukraine wasn't the only city under attack. Innocent Palestinians were ruthlessly attacked by the Israeli bombs and air strikes who have been doing what Russia are doing now for decades. Except the poor Palestinians don't even get a tenth of the media coverage our friends in Ukraine are getting, nor to they have the military, financial and cyber support like the Ukrainians are getting. I don't see any sanctions put on Israel. Nor do I see sporting boycott.
Afghanistan was also mercilessly bombed by the Americans. Fair enough the Taliban needed taking down, but look at the state if the country now. A humongous humanitarian disaster. Poverty and starvation everywhere. All this is a result of an invasion. Just like what Russai are doing to Ukraine.
So, let's think for a moment about all out fellow humans under invasion all across the world. We're not in a position to sanction anyone but on a governmental level I feel as though all invasive countries should be sanctioned heavily, isolated and made into a pariah state.
Saudi Arabia/UAE for their bombing of Yemen
India for their invasion of Kashmir
China for their oppression in Uigher and Hong Kong
USA for their warcrimes in Iraq/Afghanistan
Russia for their invasion of Crimea
Iran for their proxy wars on Syria
Israel for the apartheid state they've created and constant bombing of Palestine
The world wants peace ✌️

Don has staged an unwelcome invasion of this thread. He is no different to Putin!

Well said, Yorkshire Red.
I've been hit particularly hard by events in Ukraine. I wrote about it on another thread so won't repeat myself here.
One thing it really underlines is that our capacity for empathy is affected by how familiar the world we're looking at is. I've felt appalled and sad about all the crimes and tragedies listed by the OP. But it's a different level of emotional response when it happens to a world you know well. I felt that when I drove through central London on the evening of 7/7. And I feel it about Ukraine: the people murdered and oppressed by Putin are 'my people'.

Whilst not disagreeing with any of your points OP, I prefer to just talk about Ukraine, it's a big enough event to be left on its own
Otherwise it can get like what did the Romans do for us.
Yes, but what about that war.
Always the chance of a separate thread.

My cousin is a doctor in Kyiv and can’t get hold of him: much of my family don’t know where he is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He should just move
----------------------------------------------------------------------
if he is a doctor he will be probably helping wounded citizens at the hospitals etc.
Its what Doctors and Nurses do instinctly without notice often in times of emergency, such as this in Kiev.
He will probably come home soon. If so he is a hero.
