How many managers are we going to blame?

Well my pre-match article from yesterday didn’t age well lol. The team from yesterday barring Winks seems our strongest 11, and it’s pretty poor really but should have been enough to beat Middlesbrough but there you go. I think one of the reasons for the depth of disappointment felt by fans after results like this is that for several years we’ve been overrating our players quite considerably. People go on about how this is a top 6 team on paper and stuff like that but I don’t think it is. No way near. Not even on paper.

But beyond that seen quite a few articles since Burnley beginning to question Conte, but how many managers are going to blame for the current predicament of the club. The problems at Spurs are far more fundamental, and go well beyond the manager. We just aren’t set up as a club to win trophies and strive for consistent success, and until that changes the best a manager can achieve with us is mitigate to the worst of the ingrained impulses of the club like Poch did.

We’ve had 3 very good managers in Poch , Jose and Conte. In particular Jose and Conte are serial winners with better players
We all know the issue and it’s that the squad is thin in quality, the majority are mid table players and can only turn it on in certain games when the opposition tactics are right like city and Leeds

That team, largely, beat City in a game where they performed and executed the strategy perfectly.

All this talk of over rating players blah blah blah is none sense when we are playing a Championship side.....even if our players are Championship quality, we were out played and out thought by Boro.

For me everything was wrong last night.

The approach, the line-up, the tactics, the execution and individual performances.

Why were we sitting back with 5 at the back and 4 in front trying to catch Boro on the counter attack? The manager is largely responsible for the approach to a game and the mindset he sends his team out with.

For me, it strikes me that perhaps we did not do our home work, turned up, tried to play the Conte away-game way but, for what ever reason, were totally off the boil and could not deliver or adapt to Boro. They adapted to us and after a tricky start began to cause us problems. We just employed Plan A which is to sit back and try and counter.

A win against City isn’t a barometer of the quality of our squad. Norwich beat City the last time they were up and ended up getting relegated. I’m sorry but there is absolutely no way on earth we currently have a top 6 PL team. Conference league is our level dare I say it even a below. In any case we won’t be winning anything for a long time because that’s just not how the club functions.

Say Conte does leave - who next? It won’t matter, this is well beyond managers now. Just makes me respect and appreciate Pochettino even more for what he was able to do with us.

As a Spurs supporter for many years, I have just about had it with a club that consistently fails whilst disappointing me.. Last night was just once too many for me.

Agreed. I don't care who we put out, the simple fact is a PL team should not feel the need to counter attack a Championship team.

The normal extra quality should be enough to outplay the lower team.

The set up last night instantly gave Boro the advantage, with their players probably thinking to themselves " well, they look like they are scared of us, so no reason not to go at them from the start"

For many years now, Spurs problem has been:
1. Very poor player mentality.
2. Very poor player ability to roll up sleeves and fight for every ball.
3. The wrong tactics, as seen last night. For some reason, we always give every team we play way too much respect. Last night was a classic example. Why are we playing 10 behind the ball against a Championship side ? Why do we back off from these players. Do our lot think Messi in his prime plays for Boro and we will get caught out ?
4. Every big / must win game results in all our key players not turning up. Last night, again, was a prime example. But this is not a one off. It has been consistently happening since the mid 1980, when we DID go into big games expecting to win.

As a Spurs fan ( and season ticket holder until 2019 ) last night was the last straw. I have had it with this club. A club that has consistently failed to achieve anything, a club that consistently disappoints me as a fan.
