Some really good news for a change!

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is on her way home from Iran.

Whatever the politics around this, I'm just pleased for the family. Her Husband has been an absolute star in keeping this case in the media. Also, she'll get to meet the Daughter she hasn't held for several years.

A problem of her own making.

If you're going to post propaganda against the government of Iran akin to overthrowing them and then proceed to visit that country, you're asking for trouble.

Was it right what the Iranian government did? Of course not, but it wasn't exactly the smartest choice to go there after posting such things.

She has consistently denied the charges against her !

Getting falsely accused of spying and arrested and convicted on "secret charges" is her own making?

Way to defend human rights abuses.

Never said the charges were not false, but she has been a strong critic of the Iranian government (who wouldn't be) and is a big proponent of spreading the western ideal of democracy to Iran.

Well with the Iraq War debacle still fresh in the memory the government there have smeared her to an extent that they do have some support of the population.

However the point is why would you go to a country with an authoritarian government that you've constantly criticised online and not expect some kind of punishment? Is it right for the for the goverment to do so? Not at all, but she was stupidly naive to do so.

Why would she go to the country of her birth to allowed her parents to meet their new granddaughter?

I've criticised the US government before but I wouldn't expect to be arrested andbdetained if I decided to visit the US.

In an ideal world yes I completely agree she should be allowed to do that.

But authoritarian governments don't work that way, go criticize one on Twitter then visit said country and see how you get on.

Not sure how you've managed to deduce this is me defending them, the treatment of this woman and other's who dare to criticize them is digusting.

But who is going to stop them? There country, there (barbaric) rules.

Good news, I followed this story and something doesn't sit right with me. There is definitely more to it however at least she is coming home to her family.
