Proud is an Understatement

This time two years ago I was in a mindset that I'd rather we'd qualify for the Europa League cos I know we'd be one of the favourites every year to win that competition. Then we win the Champions League, and go out like that in two successive years.

Sometimes I feel like I was destined to support this club. I got to experience the beginning of a mini-revolution as a boy. I got to experience what might possibly be the greatest era of Chelsea in my lifetime as a teenager. And now, in my 30's and mellowed out (having seen pretty much everything from us) I get to watch that, how it finished, feeling no sense of deflation, injustice or sadness - nothing but pure pride. What an outstanding performance

This club hasn't & will never disappoint me.
Dunno what else to say.

Chelsea very impressive for the most part before they contrived to throw away the tie via Kante and missing a variety of chances.

Felt like a missed opportunity imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can put the spotlight on Kante, but those were both collective errors that were brought about by Madrid pressing in the right areas.

The first comes from a 3-on-1 press against the touchline. Kante arrives to provide his teammate someone to play off, but then neither of the Chelsea players (I can't tell who they are) stay make sure Kante himself has an easy out. Instead they both sprint away from the action, leaving Kante alone to find a way out against 4 white shirts.

The second begins with Reece trying to chest-control a ball between two players and playing the last centre-back into a 2-on-1 forcing him to release a first time ball into space that triggers the misunderstanding between Kante and RLC (who also pulls up in the middle of his run for the ball).

R M ,got lucky on the night again, as against PSG, but I can't see them doing it again surely.

Man City to win it this year ! although I've been saying that for a few years !

Hey, Harl!

You can talk about luck, but what about the contrast in mentality in similar circumstances?

PSG saw a two-goal lead turned into a one-goal deficit and their heads dropped completely. Both Madrid and Chelsea found themselves in the same situation, but remained resolute and found a way back.

This club has never been a disappointment to me either and I have watched us get relegated three times.

We lost this game last week, today's performance was great but if we had performed better last week we may have done better. Great performance and a better team selection. Their subs improved their team ours didn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shame that really, our subs finished us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In a nutshell, when I saw our subs come on , I realised that we were going to struggle .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean, Pulisic and Saul, I ask you ! why are they even on the bench in the first place !

IOAG, I must admit, it was a great game, and well done to RM, but the guys I was with in Paco's Bar ,had all but given in and were not too friendly with me after Werner's goal !............
but they got the beers in after the game !

I wouldn’t have taken Werner off, thought he was fantastic and was pulling the RM defence all over the place.

Luckily the guys down the bar weren't the ones on the pitch!

I also think Carlo probably had a game plan they didn't. Of course you never intend to go 3 down before making subs, but he'd also have been well aware Madrid couldn't simply go out to trade punches against a side that had a vast physical advantage. Try to expend as little energy as possible and hold onto that lead (and it's fair to say Madrid also had chances to get on the scoreboard earlier in the game), and make sure to leave something for a tight finish.

In the event, that extra energy allowed Madrid to press those errors out of tired Chelsea legs. I don't know what might've happened if Tuchel hadn't waited so long to throw on some fresh legs of your own, but only he could say why he didn't.

Didn't think we played that bad last week honestly. Real the better team but a draw wouldn't have been unfair (1-2 probably would've been the fairest result).

But on balance over both legs no question we should've gone through
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You put up a great fight, but Madrid were ahead in the tie for 140 minutes and trailed for 5.

Teams play differently when they're ahead to when they're trailing. It didn't take Madrid much time at all to score when they needed to.
------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, that's kind of a good argument but it's not as if Real just walked through us is it? It took a pass from Modric that you could upload on P0rnHub to get them back in the tie

Real definitely had the best individual quality moments of the tie, I don't think anyone can try to argue against that tbh, but we were the better team & that's two years in a row I can say that vs. Real Madrid, and that alone considering where we were (in my mind) two years ago is staggering.
