Sportswashing

No this isn't about Rangers reusing someone's training top for another player and just washing it then changing the letters

Qatar World Cup, Golf LIV Series, F1, Newcastle, WWE events and many more

Regardless of your preference for golf, wrestling entertainment or anything else the sportswashing is pretty clear - throw money at a major sports event to make your country look good through sport to hide the inhumane treatment of people in your country.

I have never been to Saudi or Qatar but I have been to a few of the Arab countries and they people are fantastic, I have no reason to believe it is any different in Qatar or Saudi.

However, is there anything fans can actually do about it other than boycott events? Let's be honest fans will go to watch the best of the best regardless of who funds it if they can afford to go. Do we just have to accept that like the EPL it is the billionaire's who run it

I will be against it until the day I see it invested in Celtic, then I'll change opinions...

Saudis are slowly starting to own football, they'll be moving premiership games there for "specials" in no time.

Trying to make a Rangers joke regarding washing was naive at best

It had the merit of actually being true.

You believe the letter sent to Celtic fans wasn’t?

It doesn’t really. Most people in the West weren’t aware of many of the issues of places like the Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia until they got involved in sport.

Whilst it is wrong, it is largely only foreign workers that are treated that bad and the minority indigenous nationals that don't have their own business are largely given cushy government jobs that pay outstanding sums for few hours and given property too in some cases?

The nationals can leave if they don't accept their gov's laws. The foreigners can leave albeit perhaps only after their contract is up. None that I know were forced to go, they were simply enticed by the money.

Cutting off hands and the like is pretty sheite but as you point out money covers for everything - UN support, nationals support, economy enhancing workers support - so why not image support?

The west are pretty bitter about the middle east. All week its been about slamming and shaming the golf players for joining there tour questioning there morals and ethics. In F1 they get bashed all the time and in football its the same. We might not agree with how they behave and there principles, but we do sound like a bratish nation that whinge at other nations fortunes.

It’s not bratish to have a moral compass.

No.

Clowns with no morals will go and cheer their 'heroes' even though they are playing in a tournament for a regime that commits atrocities like torture, beheading and hangings.

Was it 14 Saudi Nationals that apparently were involved in crashing planes into buildings in the USA..?

Aye bit golf..
