His performance against Athletico is probably the best he has played for us in over a year. He actually looked competent and was positive in most of what he did.
While many would have loved to see the back of him, myself included, we all know we're stuck with him for a while, so it was heartening to see him play l like a professional footballer again.
Hopefully he can build on this and take some confidence into the new season. At his best, he is still the best defender we've got

I’m not sure who is, personally. Until his back injury in 2020, Lindelof was playing the best football of his career, and he then went on to be one of the players of the tournament at Euro 2020 last summer. He isn’t a vocal leader, but there’s a very cool, very competent ball player in there who should suit playing in a high line.
We know what Varane is capable of if he can stay fit, and we haven’t even seen the new £60m CB signing yet.
There are potentially four excellent CBs in the squad now. It’ll be exciting to see what ETH can get out of them.

We won't have that positivity here thanks Rosso.

True Re: Lindelof, but I'd take an in form Maguire over him every time.
As for Varane, honestly I think we might have a dud on our hands. The way he got torched by Bailey in the Villa friendly hasn't helped change my impression. That was so embarrassing, he could barely turn... Can't stay fit long enough to find form and his legs seem like they may be going.
Really looking forward to Martinez. If his passing out the back is what they say it is, him and Lindelof together could be a very enjoyable watch... Against teams that keep it on the floor of course

*At their best*, both are capable of anchoring a team angling at a title challenge. Martinez and Varane will also be in the mix, of course, and with all four, the question is going to be about confidence, form, and how much ETH can drag out of them, rather than capability.

This.
We know these players are well capable of top 4 status. Lets now see how ETH can re-enthuse them with his methods and style when combined with new signing he will introduce in over the next few windows.

Some heavy delusion on this board.

How do you, or anyone else know that? They haven't done such a thing yet and experience shows us that that comment is absolute garbage.
Of course against a defensive team such as Atlético Madrid, Maguire is going to look great. They barely attack.
Either way, I'm willing to give our whole team a fresh start under a new boss. It is difficult to judge their true ability when playing under managers who do not inspire them, or provide the team, the fans and everyone at the club with any confidence.
I give Maguire 10 games of this season before I start calling for his head again.
Lindleoff, will always be sh!t in the PL. He's a weasel of a "man" and gets bullied by strong players, which the PL is full of.

Hoping they all prove me wrong of course.

Against a team that attacks for fun he always gets pulled apart.

The hysteria has reached a point where it's not just that he had a bad season last year and even at his best, his immobility is a weak point. No, he *always* gets pulled apart by good attacking teams. Always. Never part of good defensive performances against very good sides in his time wearing a United shirt.

I said when ten hag was appointed that Maguire will be one of the most improved players. He has the tools to be a good player, he just had no structure around him.

“Some heavy delusion on this board,” says the man who claims he’s seen better CBs playing for pub teams than 40-odd-England-caps, 200-PL-appearances-for-three-different-clubs Harry Maguire.

I'm giving the bloke a chance to prove me wrong under new management but you can't honestly believe he is worthy of his current position?
Think that Portuguese sun has got to ya head.
