Got to question Kaplan's competence as a ref following a series of bloomers in recent years starting with the "New Ball Throw In" incident at the 2009 Ireland Wales match when he flatly refused to use the TMO.
In the match against Italy two days ago he made more wrong decisions the worst being his failure to spot the impediments against Bowe when he was chasing the ball in the hope of scoring a try which he almost certainly would have. Granted the TMO is most at fault, but I felt JK could have spotted it himself!
Also he failed to spot the attempted gouging on Healy when it was happening right in front of him.
Is Kaplan competent?

the new ball throw in was this year.... 6 months ago
The TMO is forbidden from being used to adjudicate in this sort of an indecent. his sole purpose is to judge the act of scoring the try so end of that debate and on to the the next which would be should the IRB allow the TMO to be used for other things such as that indecent you mentioned?
As im irish i was annoyed at that stupidity by kaplan in the wales match (this year) but i still dont believe that our game should be further interrupted with TMO judgements. if the ref can call the TMO for things like this well hell a game would end up 4 hours long with every captain in the world shouting at the REF for a TMO judgement for just about anything. Fact is other REF's dont make mistakes so often as this guy.
So As for the competency of Mr Kaplan? in a word No he is not competent at this level in fact he is about as useful as a REF as a coffee mug made of chocolate, but the up side of this is that hes useless for both sides and thus it should even out over 80 mins. That said, wales scored an illegal try(this year) and won a game by less then a try so i guess that was not even for us that day.
But you know what.... thats the way it goes sometimes. Build a bridge

It did even out for you DingBat! You had quite a few penalties that shouldn't have been and lots of decisions went your way when they shouldn't have. we were just lucky that the biggest decision went are way.

Hook mate, you know thats not true, kaplan made errors on both sides lots of them as he normally does, but like i said its just the way it goes sometimes, if it had been my team taking that try i would not be complaining i would be calling it opportunistic
Well to be fair in this instance the touch judge was more at fault anyway. dont you think?

It was the Irish capt. O'Connell who remonstrated with Kaplan to go to the TMO over the "new ball throw in" incident. If what you say is right, then Paulie doesnt know the refereeing rules of the game.
Surely its not a question of whether bad decisions "even out" or not. The criteria should be any ref making over a certain number of bad decisions, irrespective of in whose favour he made them, should have his competence vigorously reviewed!
