Wenger and Chants

The joint statement by Arsenal and Spurs condemning the chants by a section of both fans in Sunday's match, is a step in the right direction. These offensive songs are not only perverse and sickening, but I believe in some instances, as in the case with Wenger, quite libelous and any right thinking person should not be singing them.

What I find surprising though is the airtime the issue seems to be enjoying. Could it be its because Mr. Harry 'the press loves me' Rednapp decided to shoot his gob off about chants aimed at Adebayor? or could it be because one song also targeted him.

For 15 years Wenger has endured vile abuse in England, from North to South and back up, even culminating in his being sent right into the midst of goading Manchester United supporters recently. But the Frenchman has kept a dignified silence, choosing to say little. Even Amazon (I believe it was), also had the effrontery or should I say thoughtlessness to publish the song at a time. Why? Maybe because nobody thought it odd to question the treament being meted to the Frenchman.

Now Harry feels Adebayor has been unnecessarily vilified and I agree with him, but pray where has he been all this while that Arsene has been the no. 1 target for vile abuse across the country? Possibly the hierarchy of football clubs and league even silently enjoyed it.

With the action to be taken i.e. fishing out the culprits and all that, I hope it signals the end of this barbaric practice but the pessimist in me thinks this will change little.

Tell you what, this whole media outrage is a pointless exercise.

There's will always be sc um in this world. Sc um that will insist on they're right to say sc ummy things.

You know that saying, something like "I may not agree with you, but i'll die defending your right to say it.." or something like that. Well, what a load of bolox.

Basically, the law prevents me from shotting everyone of those racist, fascist sc ums out there, so it's tough luck for me. Trying to muffle out there words is pointless.

exactly serious WUManiser its just pointless going on about it, its like anti bullying schemes etc, it doesnt ever change anything, its part of the game, it always will be, players should just ignore it, im sure they dont cry at night anyway thinking about it, bringing the topic up doesnt help. im sure no one really wants ade dead, its just gang mentality, singing stupid songs, trying to wind the other team up, theres far more important issues than this.

It may be a pointless topic, but the Article and valid. 5 from me.

The point is there's only two things that'll stop those types of chanting.

1. Education

2. Threat of getting their heads smashed open.

i dont agree with any abusive chanting, no one deserves racist chants to be sung at them, but at the end of the day, its the way its always been. id rather it stays the same, or else in the future, the north london derby, or any derby, or any football match, will be so over regulated, it will destroy any atmosphere, emotion to the game, and advocate this big brother nosense thats already gone to far

As much as I concede the possibility of the so-called joint action having little effect, which I expressed in the article, I also think its condescending by the press all of a sudden to try and raise the awareness of this issue, simply because Harry Rednapp is involved.
