Why is it so hard for Arsenal to move players on for money? Especially when other clubs make a whole lot of money for players who have less experience...
Recent examples include:
Torreira
Bellerin
Maitland-Niles
Guendouzi
Runarsson (okay, he's actually rubbish!)
This isn't so much about the player choosing to stay and get paid for an easy life but more about, once a deal is actually reached, the club (Arsenal) gets a pittance or nothing.
Even while admitting that the money situation in Europe is an impact, I'm struggling to reconcile the fact that Barca, as an example, got a prime age Bellerin who was really good for Betis for nothing and Fenerbahce got a similarly prime Torreira who had a stellar season for Fiorentina for £1m.

Getting rid of Torreira for 1m and trying to pay 20m+ for Douglas Luiz in the same window is baffling.

If he didn't have his issues with London and playing for Arsenal, I'd look at it this way. But it's not like we were trying to get rid of LT to get DL. The two can be viewed in isolation of each other.

We seem to have gained a rep for letting go of our big wages, big name players for free. That has to stop.

This is generally happening with all big name players across the globe tbh

Name 3 big name players (non-Arsenal) who have left their clubs for free (before the end of their contracts) in the way Arsenal have done it...

Lots of other clubs have similar struggles as well.
United, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool have had problems moving on players, for a multitude of reasons.

The main reason is horribly inflated wages that simply can't be matched by other clubs nowadays, two though (and what really makes sale improbable) is because the players are completely frozen out by the manager.
Normally when a player has a great loan spell like Bellerin did or apparently Torreira did too there's then a chance they'll be brought back into the fold at their parent club.
That isn't the case with us and other clubs know that. As/and no doubt the player knows as well that there is zero chance they'll represent Arsenal again because of how Arteta man managers players he isn't keen on.
Why would a club pay for these guys when they know 100% that they are nothing but a wage burden to Arsenal that will either be sent out on loan again until their contract expires or will just be let go on a free early as it's a bit easier on all parties.
To be fair, if we don't need the money it's not that bad. It's also not always the players fault the manager will never bring them back into the team regardless of how well they perform, these guys signed extensions usually because they were important first team players at the time and want to play football.
It's best for all parties to part ways as soon as possible really in this case.

Surprised that we are letting Torreira move on given our lack of midfield cover. He’s a good squad midfielder and I think we could use him given Partey’s fragility
Im not saying he is a replacement for Partey as hes not but he is a midfielder and we are short in that department

Definitely. Our lack of DM/CM cover could well be the difference between 5th and 4th this season

Spurs also having difficulty moving on players. All seem to be going on loans.
Seems like the premier league teams are paying fortunes for players and nobody wants to buy these players again. Might have to do with wages and clubs generally being skint
