Are Spurs really a big club?

The gutless way they approach games says otherwise.

Cowardice is big games really is the Tottenham way.

They are more negative than West Ham against top 4 teams

Ahhhh the old big club debate!!?

This will never be solved but I'm sure we can all agree that no club with an average gate of below 45k could ever be considered big regardless of their on field success.

Going by that criteria Spurs must have been miniscule in 2017 when they could only get 36,000 and worse still had 1940’s staunchions at the front of the shelf. 😂
--------------------------------------------------------
It proves how futile the "big club" debate is, because fans will always champion what they have to brag about as being what's important

Where Spurs go it's a very silly debate indeed - of course they're a big club. They fill more than enough of most people's criteria to pass easily.

I would agree with thar Devil. I’ve never said on here ever that they’re not a big Club but I won’t have any of theirs say that we’re not either because for the forseeable future they have got a bigger and better ground than us. We had a better ground than them after 2001. It’s all transient imo.

There's a reason they leap straight to the stadium thing when this comes up, because they have nothing else on us! We surpass them in pretty much every other metric you can use. The prime (close to parody) example of using what you have to brag about.

The whole notion of what a big club is doesn't really matter tbh. The history argument is the same. I could tell a Braintree fan they're irrelevant & they won't give two f*cks - they're relevant to them & probably couldn't care less about "big club" Chelsea

To be fair Chelsea still won trophies in the late 90s. FA Cup in 1997, League Cup in 1998, UEFA cup winners cup in 1998 and FA cup in 2000.

So Newcastle are a big club then. Who knew.

Weird that Spurs were not a big club until they moved to their new stadium though. Strange way to measure stature of a club that.

Oh course Newcastle are a huge club!!

They haven't won anything for donkeys years yet they were getting 52k in the Championship. As I said earlier it's easy to turn up when you're winning it's when the chips are down we find out who the big boys are.

I assume from your user name you are a Wolves fan,? There's a few of your lot who get down my local for Wolves games and they are a good group of lads, they certainly don't blow smoke up Chelseas rathole like you do.

Most Spurs fans (myself included) loved WHL but it was holding us back and yes we couldn't consider ourselves a big club in a 36k stadium.

They aren't that huge. That was the message we kept getting before they sold their soul. But let's be honest, they are a big club, a middling PL sized club

But they aren't ad big as United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Everton or Villa. West Ham are of similar stature, as are Forest. Sheffield Wednesday? They're on a similar level.

Newcastle are only huge in Newcastle. They haven't won anything in god knows how long and have negligibly support outside of their own city. They're not a small club but not huge by any means either. They will obviously grow now that they're backed by the "non-Saudi controlled" group

Forgot Leeds, who are at least as big as Newcastle. Probably bigger. So no, I don't think they're a huge club no matter how often they tell us that's the case

True but irrelevant, clubs evolve. Spurs weren't doing much until former player Arthur Rowe came up with a tactical concept called push & run, and current player under his management Bill Nicholson thought "I like this idea"

No club that's ever existed was created great or "big", it took at least one person (unusually several - which is also true of modern Chelsea) to give them an advantage over the competition for a significant period of time.
