Scotland womens team...equal pay

So whats all our thoughts on this?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64004005

"Scotland women's national football team are taking legal action against the Scottish FA in a fight over equal pay and conditions after talks broke down."

Now...I'm perhaps a bit old school here, but I don't agree with this one bit.

I am all for the advancement of the womens game....100%
But do I think they should be getting paid the same as the men....absolutely not, it has to be relative to what they are bringing in.

This argument comes on the back of the US women's team winning a landmark case and being awarded £17m...the difference there though, is that the US women's team is one of the best in the world, they are World Cup winners, and likely draw in huge crowds......they have far better standing on the world stage than the mens team, so if they are helping to bring money in as much as if not more than the mens team, then of course they should be getting paid similarly.

For me that's the difference, and why the pay in Scotland should not be equal, at least not for the time being.

The key line for me is this...."This is about all professional footballers being treated equally"

Well....I hate to break it to you, but all professional footballers are not treated equally and they never will be.

How well you are paid, how good your training facilities are etc...etc...are all dictated by your ability and the club/country you play for.

I can understand the argument for national sides being treated equally....a little....but to my knowledge, the record attendance for a Scotland womens game at Hampden is less than 20,000...whereas the men's team can sell the place out pretty easily for big qualifiers (50000+)

Given that's the case, why should the women be paid the same as the men...pretty obvious the men's games bring in bigger crowds and more money for the SFA.

For similar reasons, I don't think Rangers would entertain the idea of paying their women's first team the same amount of wages are their men's team....it would bankrupt the club...so why is the emphasis on the SFA to do it at national level?

I mean Caroline Weir, who is one of those arguing for this...she plays as a central midfielder for Real Madrid..you telling me she gets paid the same as Toni Kroos or Luka Modric like??

You telling me Real Madrid wouldnt tell her to fck right off if she asked for that level of wages from her club??

Why is she expecting it at national level then?

Don't agree with it at all

Is the High Commissioner to America paid more than the high commissioner to Nepal?

No, they are paid the same for representing their country even though trade with America generates more money and is a much busier office than trade with Nepal. There is a pay grade for high commissioners which applies universally regardless of how much money is made. Equal pay for the same job.

But when it comes to representing your country in sports, people want to bring out the books and balance sheets. That's stupid and ridiculous. Equal pay for the same job.

Being a football player isn't a job

If being a football player was a job, then all players would get paid the same going by your logic

Do they?? No....of course they don't
Why? Because every single players wages, appearance fees , aponsorships...you name it......all are based on the players ability, thier draw, their quality, their marketability, their sell on values etc..etc...etc...

Of course it's a job. It's not a normal job but then we all know that

That doesn't make sense. You're equating pubic service paid for in taxes to the entertainment industry.

All actors act, right? They should all get what Tom Cruise gets.

Playing for your national team is not the entertainment industry. It's a sacred honour of a lifetime.

A female Tom Cruise should get what Tom Cruise gets.

That's not true. My team of peers all get paid differently within a pay band. I'm paid the most because I'm the best.

That's not because I'm male or the best looking. It's a job.

First off -

Second. The money is coming from TV audiences. If you're getting paid because people watch you do something, it's entertainment. Any money they get for sporting achievements must be tiny in comparison. They'd basically be like Olympic athletes, lucky to get subsidised travel etc

Not if she gets 10% of the box office. That's mad. No one would hire her.

Now if you're saying that society if fuct and before paying a tenner to watch Tom Cruise in a movie we should be giving it to nurses.. well maybe. But that's an entirely different discussion.
