Does it devalue the sport?

We've seen some surprising results this weekend and much as that is good for the sport in terms of competitiveness and excitement, I just feel that it makes Rugby League appear amateurish when Super league sides are adveresly affected by what is a glorified money spinning friendly on the Friday night. Absolute disgrace in my opinion and if Rugby League are serious about stopping the best players going to Rugby Union, they need to avoid arepeat of this weekend. It's pathetic and has me seething.

I don't post on the RL forum often but am not a WUM. I am a Wigan Warriors fan who fell in love with the sport when Super League became mainstream in '96. Great to watch and skill is often rewarded over brute force. Far better game to watch than Union but things like this weekend just makes it appear minor league.

the Aussies play loads of games I bet the Origin players from the Broncos and Dragons are playing for their clubs on Friday....so using that excuse U7143 is pretty lame...

It won't be a problem when coaches start telling their exile players to not bother playing in this friendly match.

Every top 4 club dropped points this weekend, whens the last time that happened....

They should rather have had no SL games this week, or played the Exiles match on Wednesday, and have the earliest SL game Sunday to give the players chance to recover.

TV dictates though Ronald the RFL won't have the balls to say no and play it on a Wednesday.

Barra is spot on......the idiot box runs the game today and they will never allow a spare weekend and go without ratings for the sake of players or the game.
I bet if the players were paid per game instead of a salary you wouldn't be hearing any of this burn-out rot.

well said Souths totally agree...do the players and clubs moan in the NRL ?...about fatigue etc.....

Yeah!! Cameron Smith has been running a campaign on behalf of the elite players, complaining of how the game is quicker these days and takes more out of the players...........................I'd like to see these blokes play without interchange and see how they go, then they might have reason for complaint.

so to say Australia are better than us because our players play too many games in Super League is a total myth...why don't they just admit that the players from down under are better athletes...what we need to do is get better fitness coaches and skills coaches...

because its true Ronald when we get battered at the end of the season in the 4 Nations it will be the same old whine...too many games etc....when exactly the same thing happens in Oz...

The salary cap was introduced as a measure to "level out the playing field" and make the competition more even. This origin match (and hopefully eventually a series) seems to be doing exactly the same thing - levelling out the competition. So WHY is it "a bad thing"?

And as others have pointed out - it happens in the NRL and it's not "a bad thing" there. Maybe it's all down to the planning (or lack of it) by the clubs in preparing (or not) to deal with this situation?
