Mankad Yes or No?

I think you need the rule. Otherwise the non-striker could just stand halfway down the wicket.

There needs to be some common sense applied to it. If a bowler enters his bowling action, it shouldn't be allowed and should be called a dead ball. The same if the bowler runs in and the stops waiting for the batsman to step out. If the bowler runs in, doesn't enter their bound and just takes the bail off, then the batsmen went too early and it should count. I think you'd find the majority of cases would be given not out if those rules were applied.

Someone tried to mankad me this summer in one of my club games. It was a close game in the final overs of a tense run chase. The bowler stopped in his action and waited for me to step out. The panel umpire told him off, accused him of trying to cheat and gave it a dead ball. The bowler was fuming and stormed off at the end of the game refusing to shake anyones hand after we won.

Interestingly, it is a no ball if a bowler accidentally hits the stumps at the non-strikers end when bowling. Surely they should be checking for a mankad everytime that happens as the bowlers arm hasn't reached the highest point when the bails are taken off.

Yeah I think penalty runs make more sense
