Leeds Utd v Brentford Matchday Thread

Welcome to the Matchday Thread and the visit of Brentford to Elland Road.
Hopefully the Lads will be brim full of confidence, a few defensive frailties ironed out and ready to give our opponents the same thumping they gave us at their place. 😃

Venue...Elland Road...Date...22nd Jan...Kick Off...1400hrs

TEAM NEWS
Leeds United
Leeds United's record signing Georginio Rutter is short of match fitness and could make his debut as a substitute, according to head coach Jesse Marsch.

Defenders Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and Maximilian Wober have all recovered from minor knocks.

Brentford
Brentford defender Rico Henry is back in contention after overcoming a calf strain.

Fellow full-back Aaron Hickey could return from an ankle injury which has kept him out since October.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
Leeds have lost just one of their previous 16 home fixtures with Brentford, winning eight and drawing seven.
Brentford are aiming to complete a league double over Leeds for the second time in their history, having also done so in the 2014-15 Championship season.
The three Premier League meetings so far have produced 14 goals - six for Leeds and eight for Brentford.

Leeds United
Leeds have won just twice in 15 Premier League matches, drawing four and losing nine.
However, their only defeat in the past four home games in all competitions was to Manchester City.
Jesse Marsch's side beat Cardiff City 5-2 in the FA Cup on Wednesday night to end a seven-match winless run in all competitions (D3, L4).
The Whites have conceded 112 Premier League goals since the start of last season, more than any other side.
Wilfried Gnonto has scored three goals in his last two appearances at Elland Road.

Brentford
Brentford are on a club record run of seven Premier League matches unbeaten, winning four and drawing three.
The Bees are vying to win four consecutive top-flight fixtures for the first time since 1939.
Thomas Frank's side could also win three successive top flight away games for the first time.
However, they are yet to win when conceding the opening goal in the league this season, drawing four and losing four of those matches.
Ivan Toney has scored five goals in his past four Premier League appearances.

So Brentford on a good run and us just looking to start one
Chris Sutton reckons we'll see a 2-2 draw but wtf does he know, this has 2-1 written all over it

Simply not good enough. This was 100% A must win game. I said in my post yesterday that this was make or break with regards to our season. We break.

We had more than enough chances to win the game. Why so long until changes made? If we can't put away these good chances we create, we will be relegated.

We didn’t create any good chances

I remember Raya having a busy day. He had to
make several good saves. We weren't impotent.

We were by far the better team. I think Brentford
had one or two attacks second half and that's it.

How do you define a shot that should have been put away?

50% chance or better?

If so we had no chances that were even close to that.

Strange when people say what players should put away, if it was as easy as people say it should be, why ain't they playing in their place?..

I think our xg was .4 something, there’s was .2. neither side created decent chances. We had a fair amount of half chances.

In addition to that we got into quite a few promising positions but couldn’t pull off the final ball, or it stuck in someone’s feet etc.

I thought we played quite well in the second half. We just needed a break or a piece of inspiration which never came.

We were the better side though, on another day we win that. This is what happens to sides in our position in the league. Winning and losing are habits.

For all the usual marsch this marsch that negativity that frequents this place, we’re stringing a few performances together. As long as the belief stays and the performances continue, the results will come…

I can't recall either Rodrigo or Bamford having a clear cut chance.

We keep being told the performances are good but we are not getting the results we deserve. The trouble is we have been saying it for too long now and the points total is now telling its own story. 18 points from 19 games, less than a point a game. Do the same again in the second half of the season means 36 points and most likely relegation.

Keeping saying things like "the new players will settle in soon and start to gel" and " we will start to pick up now that important players are coming back from injury" is not reassuring.

Home games against mid to lower table sides are where you need to be picking up 3 points and we are not managing it. The game against Forest is now taking on huge significance. Lose that and we are in dead trouble.

I'm not trying to compare, but last year the bod in charge of the now league leaders was getting crap around these boards!..

We're playing well, and its said we're getting better, so, on to the next and hope it continues!..
