Just read the below from Simon Stone on the BBC.
I think this is an excellent idea. It means that United will still have direct contact on the training field why the youngsters are out on loan.
Simon Stone, BBC Sport
Manchester United have agreed a novel loan deal with local National League side Altrincham.
United youngsters Sonny Aljofree, Joe Hugill and Maxi Oyedele have signed for Altrincham until the end of the season.
However, in addition to some sessions at Altrincham, they will continue to train with United's Under-21 and Under-18 squads at Carrington, with their individual schedules arranged on a weekly basis.
Oyedele has already featured for the Robins against promotion-chasing Chesterfield.

Does seem like a good idea - and innovative thinking (if I'm right to understand that this isn't a widespread practice). Having players represent a local lower league side while continuing their Academy education seems like the closest we can get to the Spanish (etc.) model of clubs' B sides competing in the same football structure as the senior team.

What's happened to my club?
Getting an essential transfer done with minimal fuss in a day and now this.
The competency just doesn't sit right with me.

Sounds like a good idea.
Not really our concern, but I can imagine the other National League clubs wont be too happy. Though I guess they already have Wrexham in there who have an enormous advantage.
