The Premier League's best chapter yet?

The league's biggest and best chapter is undoubtedly the Wenger and Ferguson years. I can give you a 1000 reasons why that chapter remains unmatched but Klopp vs Pep has been another very good chapter. In between, you had a bit of Mourinho and the great team he created.

Without being presumptuous but we may be about to enter its most competitive chapter, particularly at the Top.

I found the above-embargoed interview by Pep fascinating. He gave a lot of insight into his thinking, and the progression of the game in England. 2 key things stood out

1) He reminded everyone that when he came to England he was reminded in all his early press conferences that he is now in the most competitive league, unlike the 2 horse races he was accustomed to in Spain and German, 6 years later he is only been involved in 2 horse races and a one horse race in the Centurion season.

2) He went some way to challenge the narrative that City are now suddenly a poor team and its maybe time for people to give credit to the opposition.

I agree with him 100% on this one. There is too much of an obsession with City and their results rather than looking at the teams they are battling with and conceding that their positive actions are resulting in City's so-called struggles.

In his first press conference, Erik ten Hag expressed his admiration for rivals Manchester City and Liverpool but he expressed his belief that his United team can end the era of City and Liverpool dominance in England. Famous last words but on the evidence of this first half of the season United and Arsenal will at least compete and may very well surpass Pep and Klopp.

Let's face it ten Hag is the manager of the biggest club in England and may very well be on the frontline of a fierce battle for domestic dominance in the next 5 years. Arsenal and Arteta are ahead of them on the growth curve and are making smart astute deals to solidify their position. City will be in the conversation, you would like to think Liverpool may be aswell.

We have seen how the money in the league has changed the fortunes of mid-table to lower-end teams fortunes but most importantly it's the caliber of coaches the premier league is attracting that makes the league even stronger.

We maybe about to see its greatest Chapter yet.

The Fergie Wenger era is still the best, the hatred and animosity and the battles on the pitch are still the greatest in the PL era

On balance I'd say the Premier League's best days are behind it. There's no doubt that the rise of money clubs like Chelsea, Man City and now Newcastle has created interesting narratives, but there's also been a growing disconnect with the fans, and as a neutral outsider looking on, the only reason your league is of any interest at all this season is due to the possibility of Arsenal winning it. Otherwise as a product, for all it has features which on the surface should add to the excitement, it's a weirdly dull league.

Agree with a lot of in the OP, there’s a very good chance the next few years could well be three or four horse races at least.

It’s difficult to judge these things. Between when Mourinho arrived to Ronaldo’s last season at Man Utd was perhaps the PL best era. Many English teams were making latter stages of the CL as well as 3rd spot achieving 80 points on more than one occasion. Since then, PL hasn’t hit that level. Maybe with City and Liverpool in last years it raised the level but others lagged behind.

This narrative gets predicted too often btw. Until I see that 3/4 teams are challenging at once, it’s just another theory. There’s way too many factors.
What I will say is that Pep and Klopp have taken their respective teams to levels previous PL haven’t managed for this long. In terms of football and the style, these two have played the most dominant era. Wenger & Fergie was definitely better for overall package.

Doesn’t need that to happen, look at Boehly at Chelsea.

Best chapter? More like bank chapter, basically what it’s been reduced to.

Hope Leicester City 3-1 Arsenal to make the title race interesting.
