Not sure if it’s been discussed on here but Fox News were ‘allegedly’ knowingly spreading lies about the 2020 POTUS election being ‘stolen’ from Donald Trump.

While we shouldn’t be surprised that the Tucker Carlsons and Laura Ingrahams of this world aren’t as borderline insane as they make themselves out to be, it’s still shocking that one of the biggest news broadcasters in the world have knowingly spread dangerous misinformation, that probably even contributed towards the infamous Capitol attack in Jan 21.
It just makes you wonder…can any of these news outlets be trusted anymore? I can think of a few others who have been spreading misinformation for years about a different topic that we are all very familiar with, but I guess that’s a discussion for another day…

Well no s8it OP, this is probably true bc Fox News has shows that are essentially opinion pieces, just like cnn and other mainstream media. They lean conservative so of course they’re gonna garner favorable light to their conservative friends. It’s nothing new here and it shouldn’t be surprising either.

Both sides do it. I'm just gonna stay away and enjoy watching United and my college teams play while this rambles on. Politics just gives me a damn headache for no reason at all.
Really though, read both sides and then figure out which side you think is correct. I'm not going to judge people's characters over what their beliefs are.

I think it's pretty hard to 'both sides' things nowadays.
The right wing of American politics is increasingly unhinged, deluded and dangerous. And while things here in the UK are a little more complex, I think, they're sadly not much better.
It's really quite worrying. And I say that as someone who has previously had very little interest in politics.

So I have this working theory in my head and feel free to disagree here if you don't think it's right actually. May not seem controversial since I'm seeing people bring this up far more often now. Social media has put a spotlight on the group that shouts loudest.
So if you're a conservative coming at this, you'll probably think all progressives and liberals all act like AOC and Bernie Sanders of the world when majority of the people who vote for that base probably don't. Then you have conservative leaning accounts like Libs of TikTok shining an even larger spotlight on the very small percentage of people and painting the entire left wing base as that.
On the flip side, you have a fractured conservative base who either in it for the kick backs (Gaetz, McCarthy, McConnell, etc) masquerading themselves as the level headed folks and then you got the unhinged politicians like Lauren Boebert, MTG, and also Gaetz (lmao), etc. in grabbing all the spotlights over their takes on whatever issues comes across their desk and the mainstream media shining a huge spotlight on them. Most conservatives want to be left alone and get on with their lives really.
So really, social media just paints a huge spotlight on the ones shouting the loudest and is leading everyone to believe that X base is unhinged, stupid, deplorable, whatever when in reality, most of them aren't like that.

I think a lot of what you say is true.
But you can't compare AOC or Bernie Sanders to the likes of MTG and Boebert. That right there is the problem. The excesses of the left are simply not comparable to the sheer lunacy and stupidity of the excesses of the right.

I believe the trust in media is at its all time low here in the States currently. For both sides I might add. I don't remember where the source was from but I'm sure you can fish it out of Google somewhere.

It’s just a deflection from the topic, as per usual. Even if the ‘both sides are as bas as each other’ angle were true, and it isn’t, it doesn’t really help things if people just want to treat both with apathy. It’s depressing that people don’t want to hold them to higher standards just because they want to believe everything is the same. That apathy is one or the reasons American and British politics has ended up as the shiiiiit show it is.
