After a much needed win today I realised how many dreadful refs we had
Experienced this season,Madeley today was another, weak inconsistent and out of his depth .
It just seems to me that the bigger the game the worst the officials. At least we no longer have to suffer Jon Moss anymore.
The last few home games have seen some quite unacceptable performances from the officials.
The more important the game?

Not like you to complain about the refs Thorney?
But you are totally right - it was a woefully inadequate performance and not dissimilar in the reasons as to why Jon Miss was so bad - weakness and influenced way too easily.
Madley’s performance was clearly influenced why the fans started getting on his back after a couple of poor decisions yesterday and then it just got worse and worse. He was unable to assert any authority or balance on the way Wolves game management was boarding on cheating, and then some key decisions were just plain wrong.
I don’t think the overall refereeing standards are as horrific as you suggest but they have definitely fallen and things need to improve.
One change I want to see is as a result of VAR. I’m sick and tired of referees not having the conviction to make big decisions because they think VAR will pick it up as a fall back. But this is negatively affecting the game around penalties as it gives the advantage to the defending team. Clear pens have not been given because they weren’t a “clear and obvious” error. Reds need to give a penalty if they see one and it’s not happening all too often. Big decisions are getting shirked. That needs fixing.
Secondly the offside letting play continue objective is frustrating me massively as the game isn’t being brought back after offsides when it goes on for so long and the assistant doesn’t raise the flag. If it’s borderline fine, but if the assistant is confident in the offiside it just needs to be given. Stop allowing the attacking team to win a corner after an offside because you let play go on.
I hate VAR personally as it ruins my enjoyment of live moments watching footy, but I accept it’s here to stay so I want offsides sorted with real-time capability asap.
We also need to stop refs from being passive in games and letting VAR sort it. I want refs controlling the games themselves, like Madley did not do yesterday!
