Every high profile player gets linked to half dozen clubs it's what the media does. The situation with Ugarte should provide a clue about the current state of your finances, looked like it was a done deal then comes a club that can offer European football and more than likely better wages. Chelsea will be in a similar boat to Tottenham you won't be at the head of the queue for the top players you will have to be clever in the market. If you can't offer European football or really big wages to offset the fact you have no European football your going to struggle.

Nope, PSG just tabled a bid we weren't willing to match. In fact Ugarte, reportedly, being happy to join on reasonable wages (knowing of PSG's interest too) is actually an example of the reverse, no European football doesn't mean players with multiple options won't be interested.

It's a lazy generalization that assumes all players think alike. Jorginho & Kante, both over 25, signed for us without CL football to offer them. It's not a full proof thing.
