The rules for the season are the same as last year, although the season long bonus scores have been reduced.
They sound complicated but they’re not really.
Correct result - 3 points
Number of goals scored by each team - 3 apiece. If you get a perfect score - 9 points.
When you don’t get the score exactly right, you will get credit for predicting the correct margin of victory - 2 additional points. For example, you predict 3-1 but it finishes 2-0 or 4-2 etc, you’ll get the 3 points for the correct result and an extra 2 for correct margin. Additionally, where a draw has been predicted but the score is wrong, 2 extra points for predicting a margin of zero. With draws, if you've gone for 2-2 and it finishes 1-1 or 3-3 etc, you get 3 for the correct result plus two for predicting a zero margin.
Double points - you pick which match you'd like for the chance of double points. All you'll need to do is to indicate on your prediction submissions which match you are going for. Just add "Double" “Joker" or "X 2".
If a player fails to nominate their choice of match for double points, the last game in the set will be the default position in the event that no response is received from the notification of the failure, as posted on JA606.
It is always worth your while to check your entry again once you've posted it.
For all cup ties where extra time and penalties feature, score at 90 minutes counts.
BONUSES:
The Top 5 for the round receive the following:
1st - 25 points
2nd - 15 points
3rd - 10 points
4th - 6 points
5th - 3 points
Very occasionally, only one player will score points on a particular match. Where that happens, the lucky one will get an extra 5 bonus points.
Season long bonuses for other correct predictions are also available:
25 points – Number LCFC goals* (League only) (reduced by 1 for every goal your prediction differs). See note *
25 points - LCFC* goal difference - reduced by 1 for every goal your prediction differs. See note *
25 points – LCFC* final League position (reduced by 5 for every position your prediction differs from the final table). See note *
25 points – LCFC* League position on Christmas Day (reduced by 5 for every position your prediction differs from reality. See note *
Note *
We have a number of players who support clubs other than LCFC. That being the case, predictions for number of goals scored, goal difference, final position and position on Christmas Day can relate to their club of choice. However, all four bonuses must relate to the same club. It is not permitted, for example, to provide predictions in respect of, say Liverpool or Aston Villa, but predict Luton to be bottom on Christmas Day.
X points - Top Championship scorer (number of points = number of goals scored).
Name the three teams to be relegated to League One - final position not relevant - just name the teams to go down - 25 points per correct prediction.
Championship Winners 25 points
Runners up 25 points
Carabao Cup Winners 25 points
Losing finalists 10 points
Losing semi finalists 5 points
FA Cup winners 25 points
Losing finalists 10 points
Losing semi finalists 5 points
YOUR SEASON LONG BONUS CHOICES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST, I.E. BEFORE THE CHAMPIONSHIP KICKS OFF.
Where the are no Championship fixtures (international breaks, FA Cup weekends, etc) then fixtures from League 1 or League 2 will feature.
It is likely that we will also include League Cup games from Round 2 as well as the FA Cup from Round 3.
It looks like we’re all back for this season; only Dublin has decided to leave the group based on his poor health situation, so we all wish him well and will still look forward to his match threads.
With the number of players being similar to last season, there will be two divisions with promotion and relegation at the end of the season. I initially thought that last season's final positions would determine which division each of us would be in, but on second thoughts, I think it will be more interesting to start with just the one division, which will split into two at the first international break in September, based on table positions at that that time, i.e top half Division One, bottom half Division Two. Two up and two down at the end of the season. This will not affect the awarding of weekly bonus points; the top points scorer will get 25 whichever Division they are in and so on.
There will also be a separate competition along similar lines in respect of the Premier League. Not sure yet whether that will feature two divisions with promotion and relegation. Depends on numbers participating. No reason why not though.
Any queries, just let me know on here.
Defending champion is The Lone Groover.

For the Championship and cup competitions, are we supposed to name one side, which then gets points depending on how well they do, or are we supposed to pick multiple teams eg two teams as Championship winners and runners up?

Apologies Nuneaton, a bit vague there!
You just need to pick one team to win the cup competitions. If that team fails to make the semi finals, no points at all. 5 for losing semi finalists and 10 for losing finalist.
As regards Championship winners and runners up, you need to select the right ones. Eg you pick Leicester to win and Middlesbrough to come second and that happens, 25 and 25. If you get the right two but the wrong way round, no points at all!

Now that MITLBC has started his season (apologies if I've used the wrong determiner), where is the cut off for the top/bottom division? 8th or 9th to stay up?

9th. Thanks Nuneaton.

ADDITION TO RULES:
Further to Nuneaton’s query, where one or more players are tied on the same number of points in 9th place prior to the move the two divisions, the one with the higher number of perfect scores (9) will be adjudged to finish higher. Where those numbers are equal, the one having gained most points on their joker selections will be adjudged to be ninth and the other(s) drop into Division 2.

As Chuba Akpom has now left Middlesbrough I'm changing my top scorer prediction in the Championship to Adam Armstrong, Southampton.
