Couple Of Things From Yesterday

Morning All

For those that didn't see the game. Thought Spurs were excellent yesterday and there are some positive signs for the season. Worth noting that Shaktar are a couple of games into their season (Despite all the troubles) so defo a proper warm up Vs some of those stupid games in the Far East & Oz.

Couple of things I noticed.....

1) The style and approach is SO much better from what we have seen over the past couple of years. Lots of possession, pressing and winning the ball back much higher up the pitch helped us get the ball to our best players in good areas (Madders and Klulu being the main beneficiaries)

2) Full backs cementing their starting roles. Both Royal & Udogie were excellent, both good athletes and their understanding with Son and Kulu was really good, both overlapping when the man ahead was cutting inside (as both like to do)

3) Madders..... The perfect Spurs player, imaginative/ creative & plays with his head up (My god we have missed a player like him for the past few years). If there's one thing that might help Kane Commit its the Link up with Him, Kulu & Son.... Assuming Kane does stay, Spurs are gonna score a shlt of goals this year.

4) Midfield looked great, not his biggest fan but PEH proved there's more to his game than what we saw from him under Jose/ Conte. He allowed Madders & Sarr to get forward and their good performance was due in part to the discipline PEH showed. In addition, his passing was progressive and so much faster and decisive than it's been in the past.

5) VdD signing can't happen quick enough. Davies is a good pro but the reality is, in this team he cannot start at CB in 2 and isn't good enough on the ball to play LB. He's basically a left sided CB in a back 5. He's a solid guy and a good squad option. What will be interesting is that if VdV is as quick as everyone says, he could form a good partnership with Romero. Romero loves to attack the ball and is super aggressive, having a CB partner to read the game and has the pace to sweep up behind him could work really well.

6) Ange's post game interview was very interesting. For as well as we played, I loved the fact that he wasn't happy about the fact there were times in the game when even though we were well ahead, we sat back to give ourselves a breather, In his view that's an invitation to the opposition to regain a foothold,..... He wants wave after wave of attacking football and wants foot on the opposition throat all the time..... Loved that. If an attacking player like Kane can embrace a new manager, new creative number 10 and a style that will play to his strength then there's nothing not to like about staying at Spurs.

Lets just hope he's not been scarred by too many bad experiences.

Future Looks decent, another signing or 2 and we're in good shape

Happy with Hojbjerg but he is someone we can get good money for and we need to seriously trim the squad

On Kane, he looks very relaxed and like someone whos been told either have one last season smashing them in and join who you want after or that its already settled him moving on and hes sorted everything out for the move

Good football has been sucked from this club last 5 years. So good to look forward to watching us play. Think we need to be used to being open at the back. Love Ange in interviews, and refreshing he seems to know that we need quality in defence to be able to withstand with his style of play.

Thanks OP. I was wonder whether Shaktar were mid season, mid season break, or off season, so good to know their league has begun so they were match sharp so will have presented a challenge.

Was amazed to see the stats afterwards...32 shots. 20 on target

At this rate Kane could challenge Haaland for the golden boot. it was 30 vs 36 last season and Kane basically had to do it on his own, while Haaland tapped in most of his.

The other thing that was evident yesterday was that Spurs have some really good players in this squad. Its amazing what a change of approach, positive mindset, clearly defind stykle of play and a bit of coaching can do. I cant help thinking that our prev managers past glories have totally overshadowed the players and getting the best from them.

The likes of Kane, Son, Kulu, Richie, Solomon, Madders, Sarr, PEH, Bents, GLC, Bissouma, Dier, Perisic, Romero, Royal & Udogie are all bloody talented...... I have a sneaky feeling a low profile guy like Ange, who knows what he wants and works with what he's got, might just be the guy to get the best from this group.

I was thinking that yesterday that the way we attack now and the chances falling to Kane, he should be able to reach Shearer's record in no time....Maybe even before Jan if he stays and then he can leave

disagree. we were really good in 2018, 2019 things started to tail away and that wasnt because of any approach or tactic, we just needed the squad refreshing.

Its been 3.5 years of Jose & Conte which has seen a complete change in approach, to a defensive style.

We can all agree that Ange is a very refreshing change.

I have always said that if you instill a defensive mindset in players, their first thought is safety. Ball goes backwards, sideways and you are scared to put the ball at risk, scared to make that run and leave your defensive position.

When you take the opposite approach you think differently, you think quickly, you act and move more quickly and decisively.....you are just more switched on, offensively and defensively, with and without the ball.

Almost regardless of the quality of player, the formation and the overall tactics, to me a positive approach to a game will always do better than a negative, passive approach and will get the best out of players.

100% agree..... Both Pep and Klopp have proved this, just makes the likes of Jose & Conte look especially outdated

It noticeable that the likes of Brighton, Arsenal, Newcastle and Villa have all made significant progress in the past few years by hiring progressive managers where Spurs kinda fell into the trap of getting star struck with "has been's" living off former glories.
