Derby County 2 - 0 Lincoln City - EFL

DERBY COUNTY v LINCOLN CITY EFL Cup

1900 Pride Park Derby, Tuesday 19th September 2023

No me - neither/either.

Why 7.00pm kick off?

Cup game with the usual smatterings of squad players and those returning from injury to get some minutes under their belts.

Not a big crowd expected - and not even a bargain at ÂŁ10 which will mean this thread should be more actively populated than the previous one - hopefully...

Team news:- Wildsmith (GK), Wilson, Bradley (C), Cashin, Barkhuizen, Collins, Sibley, Smith, Embleton, Elder, Fornah.

Subs:- Loach (GK), Forsyth, Mendez-Laing, Washington, Robinson, Radcliffe, Brown.

I don't know what sort of a team Lincoln put out (mainly first eleven or a mix giving younguns a go?) but I really enjoyed that. There were some excellent performances, notably Cashin, Smith, Fornah, Sibley and Barks but a special mention for Bradley who just stuck to the simple things but did them easily and well and to Collo for non-stop application.

Wildsmith had nowt to do except pull off one great and crucial save. Although Cash was on the "wrong" side of the central pair he seemed much more comfortable there and hardly put a foot or pass wrong. Embleton and Elder were solid and effective but MOM was Wilson. He beats a man with such ease (either side). His only fault was his final ball. If he concentrates on a more simple pass that trying worldies he will be a fantastic addition and Ward will have a job to get back in.

A final word for Fornah who is starting to look a Rolls-Royce of a player. I suspect our recruitment knockers will soon be eating their words. And lastly(!) two fabulous goals - things of beauty.

Under The Cosh interviewed Mark O'Brien who was awarded Derby County Academy Player of the Year in 2009 and showed great promise during his time under Clough. Unfortunately his career was robbed due to heart value surgery.

Disappointingly Derby allowed him to leave in 2015 but he had to nurture his career elsewhere.

An interesting listen to his time at Derby and how Clough and then McClaren treated him. His thoughts on the much maligned manager Nathan Jones whilst he was at Luton Town and how he became a hero in the lower league.

An interesting listen to his football experiences and encountering something so harrowing at such a tender age.
