DF presser (Leicester)

From Auntie:

Farke confirmed centre-back Joe Rodon (hamstring), right-back Sam Byram (hamstring) and forward Crysencio Summerville (muscle) are all available to face the Foxes after joining full team training on Wednesday.

However, Joe Gelhardt has a hand fracture and, while they await further assessment, he is definitely out for two weeks and may need surgery.

Also, Djed Spence will not return before the international break but Junior Firpo has been in team training for 10 days after his long-term injury and "is on right path".

Farke paid tribute to the influence Glen Kamara is having on his generally young squad, saying: "It is important to have experienced players. He has played at Rangers, with lots of pressure to win every game, and has 50 caps for Finland. It was a difficult start for him with no proper pre-season but he gives us lots of quality on the ball and can dictate the rhythm of the game. There is more to come though."

On the league leaders: "Leicester's points tally is remarkable and you just have to give them credit. They have many top players at Premier League level, stability in the club, and a quality coach. We are full of respect and we know we will have to be at our best, but we will not travel in fear."

The German denied it was a must-win game if the Whites are to gain automatic promotion by saying, "if it was the 45th game of the season it might be, but not the 15th" and that "whatever happens, both clubs have everything in their own hands".

Leicester have won 13 of their 14 games with a possession-based game but Farke will not try to simply hit them on the break, saying, "we will never park the bus and just try to counter-attack or just hope for a mistake from our opponents. We are Leeds United and we want to be the protagonists".

The Leeds boss said he enjoyed Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto's celebration against Huddersfield, but added: "I'm from a different generation, however if you are that capable it is definitely allowed and it's good fun. The most important topic are the right moves in football boots not dancing shoes though."

Ok, so if Leicester beat us, they’ll be 17 points ahead of us. So it would take us to win 6 games in a row AND for Leicester to lose 6 games in a row for us to catch them. Not gonna happen. If we have aspirations to be champions, this is a must-win game, even then, I can’t see Leicester losing another 5 games this season so we’d be playing for 2nd spot.

Our best hope of autos clearly lies with chasing down Ipswich who are 9 points ahead but with a game in hand. Again, if we lose to Leicester, we’ll obvs still be 9 points behind Ipswich but they’ll have 2 games in hand. If they keep up their current ppg in those 2 games, the gap between us and Ipswich becomes 14 points and a similar situation applies in that we’d need to win 5 games on the bounce AND Ipswich would need to lose 5 games on the bounce for us to catch them. Not gonna happen.

In conclusion, my take is that to be champions, this is a must-win game. To get autos, if we don’t win, we’ll need a small miracle from both ourselves and Ipswich to get 2nd. And that’s all without factoring in what Southampton, West Brom etc. might do.

I rephrase that for you - if we lose we will have to win 6 games more than Leicester out of the remaining 31 games. That doesn’t include them possibly drawing a few whilst we might win a few instead of drawing.

If we could have changed our draws into wins we would be sat on 33 points now - that works both ways. They might suddenly hit a brick wall and start dropping points.

With 32 games left anything can happen.

So - no it’s not a must win game. However a win would probably make us serious contenders for the top two due to the bounce it would give the players and supporters.

Just enjoy the ride - it’s gonna be rocky.

Just as a postscript, my use of ‘6 games in a row’, ‘5 games on the bounce’ is a figure of speech, a shorthand if you will, ‘exaggerate to illustrate’ The maths still hold true though.

Nah of course it isn’t a must-win - with 30 matches to go that’s ridiculous. Suggesting it’s a must-win is inferring that should we lose, whatever results we get after it won’t be enough. As Farke says, with two matches to play, THEN you’re talking must-wins.

--------------

fully agree with this.

this is why football fans are so disappointed too often - feeling like its the end of the world if we don't win tonight, there's plenty of games left and things can turn around so quickly in football. the facts are we do look a top 2 squad and you'd expect to win a lot more than you lose. Lets not put so much pressure on a game in November for gods sake.

Ref the maths above, whilst correct maths - Lets also be realistic, you can see Leicester are clearly a good side, but I also think you can put money at some point, they're going to hit a sticky patch, lose a couple of games the gaps down to half and panic sets in. We've all been fans for a long time and know full well this is likely to happen... and if it doesn't, and they win every game until the end of the season - fair play to them, well in that case tonight's result will be even more irrelevant

Hi Stoopo. Let’s agree to disagree (it’s allowed on a football forum๐Ÿ˜).

For your analysis to be correct then (taking Leicester as the example), they’ve lost one game in 14 so far. They would then need to lose 6 games in 31 games during the rest of the season. Of course it’s mathematically possible, but I don’t think even the most optimistic/pessimistic(?) of us could see that happening.

I am enjoying the ride (sort of๐Ÿ˜) and was just responding to the earlier posts about whether this is a must-win game. Anyway, I quite fancy a day out at Wembley and a play-off final win๐Ÿ‘.

Agree generally that labelling tonight's game as a must-win is a bit over the top but it is a six-pointer because we are now mounting a strong challenge. We've already done Ipswich at theirs and it would be immense to do Leicester away too.

However, they're not the runaway leaders for nothing. This will be Farke's stiffest test so far - but it will also Leicester's. Our front line is DANGEROUSLY good with three or four in fine form - but everyone will need to be on it a zillion percent tonight.

I'm looking forward to it and think it'll be a good game that could go either way.

exactly - a big game we all should be looking forward to. Nothing is decided tonight, lets enjoy the game and get some perspective win, lose, or draw

They don’t need to lose six games, they need to drop 17 points IF they win tonight.

That could be 7 draws and one defeat. Or 5 draws and 2 defeats (16 but you get my drift?).

Yes we would have to go on a run of maybe 13 wins in 14 games but that has already been done this season, hasn’t it ๐Ÿ˜
