Ramsdales no win situation.

Aaron Ramsdales father has spoken out today about his sons current unhappiness. Ramsdale will be hoping to be given a game during the international break, but these comments have come with our number two knowing he will almost certainly start the next Arsenal premier league fixture.
He will also think that no matter how he does he will most likely be sat on the bench until a dead rubber CL game at best, or the FA Cup 3rd round in January.
He will surely feel great pressure to perform well, but that knowing he will be dropped must affect his motivation. An awful position to be in.

I can understand Arteta wanting to keep improving the team, and Ramsdale does have his weaknesses. However, Raya is at best on par with Ramsdale and his performances have not been great at all. We all hope Raya will prove us wrong - in the way Ramsdale silenced his doubters almost instantly last season. Ramsdale is an extrovert who is easy to like, Raya doesn't seem to have the personality either - making it harder to support the decision to make him number 1.

I hope Ramsdale can be at his best against Brentford but fear the situation will affect his performance. And if he does play well but is dropped against Lens then it could be the decision that makes his mind up on his future.

Raya does seem to have the occassional decent long ball in his locker, but nothing more than decent and certainly not at Ederson/Alisson level. That aside, I'm really not sure what his strengths are.

His stats are apparently better than Ramsdale s

Who the hell has said havertz is a wonderful footballer

Tbh thats all I hear from pundits - "he's such a good footballer but hasnt quite yet fit Arteta's system" sort of stuff.

One of the guys on the Football Weekly pod did actually say it might be that he WAS a great footballer in Germany but years of being the 'odd job man' and shunted around all sorts of positions has ruined him.

The primary and most important role of a goalkeeper is to stop goals and Ramsdale is far better than Raya at that. Playing out from the back is a secondary role and Raya is only slightly better at that.
Taking everything into consideration I think Ramsdale is best

Problem with this is we have conceded less with Raya, Raya has a better xG denial rate (or whatever) better save percentage etc.

As an outsider it just seems you’ve brought disharmony to the squad. Always rated Ramsdale 👍

So you mean the saves he gets to make, he makes more than Ramsdale? Is that this season as it's hard to judge based of 4/5 games

the "great player but doesn't know his best position" gets trotted out disturbingly often.

Unless he's hiding his talent incredibly well, he is just shiiiite.

🤣
Yes, after a while you have to accept that part of 👑Kai’s ability to “hide his talent incredibly well” is the likelihood that that ‘talent’ is actually tiny…

This!

I dont think anyone would have looked at our team last year and thought "we need to replace Ramsdale". Yes he had a few moments, but he saves us a lot of points I feel. If anything, we would have been hoping he learns from last season and continues to improve - he is still young.

Bringing in Raya has destabilized it all. Not only does Raya not seem like an improvement in any real way (stats from last season be damned) but now it seems like Arteta lied (I have 2 number ones) and also never had a chat with Ramsdale about dropping him. That can't be good for the squad as any player will look and say "that could be me".

Havertz is a vanity project. The question is...will Arteta realize this and treat him the way he did Willian or Lokonga after realizing his mistake? Or will it be like Nketiah - not good enough but still here.

We needed to elevate the team this season, but we have brought in a player who has been poor and needs elevation and brought in a keeper who has caused discord (through no fault of his own) by replacing a very capable fan favourite.

Exactly what has happened. Of course Ramsdale had already made mistakes before that one.
But yesterday he was really low in confidence and his face was telling at the end of the match.
Can't see a future for him at Arsenal now.
