Ten Hag In(eos)

πŸš¨πŸ”΄ Ten Hag on INEOS: β€œThey want to work with me, I want to work with them. We are looking really forward to work together".

β€œWe will have the conversations, the meetings. INEOS wants to work with me in this structure and I want to work with them. It looks very positive".

Romano has just posted the above.

Whatever our thoughts on the manager let's hope we have some certainty moving forward and that the main aim is sporting excellence.

Some fair points berba, but you could point out there were warning signs on onana, ETH surely must have noted how he was partly responsible for costing Ajax the tie in the CL final v spurs- something I’ve also seen spurs fans state. But you are by and large right, it’s hard to tell how a player will do in transitioning to the PL. onana should have been dropped before now, and that is ETH.

One game four years ago? Is that the basis on which anyone should be considering whether or not to sign a player? Also I think it's a bit of a myth about him in that game. Spur's second goal actually stemmed from a brilliant save by him, and then he's gone to gather the rebound & it's sort of got tangled with his own defender. The ball pops loose and Spurs score. It was a bit unlucky really. He made a few fine saves in that match.

But let's suppose there was more data across the course of Onana's Ajax and Inter career to point to that showed he could be dodgy (and I'm only going on clips from that time period but you could certainly see he was unorthodox), that's where your scouts, your head of recruitment etc are supposed to step in. ETH is not supposed to be picking players to sign - the pool of player's he's worked with and knows will be very very small, and therefore limited and flawed. It's a club failure - not an ETH one - if that is in fact how we've gone about recruiting players.

I hear what you are saying, and it be my and large is the clubs fault, but surely there’s enough just in that highlight real to suggest he was a bit of a risk?

He's been poor no doubt but not the 1st new GK to struggle post signing
AFCON coming up will be good for him

I’m not sure Cameroon will see it that way going by a few on here https://youtu.be/vp-2vUW57-s?si=r3kkl9ZrPDZ8jX57

Be interesting who gets the no1 spot in his absence and how well they do.

It will be a break from the utd spotlight even if he doesn't get playing for his country

A chance for ETH to look at the young Turkish GK

True, might do him the world of good. Plus gives us a time to tell uk border control not to let him back in

‘ETH cannot be expected to know whether their skill sets would translate to PL football given he himself has never managed in the PL’

I disagree with the above. If the manager backs his own skill set to ‘translate’ to the Prem, despite never managing here, why shouldn’t he expect the same of players he knows very well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Surely that's obvious, no? Coaching is coaching; from a man management point of view, if you're good at it you're likely going to be good at it in most environments. From a footballing/tactical point of view, we already knew ETH could coach a team to play good football and trade blows with Europe's elite teams in the CL. At the end of the day, a 4-4-2 is a 4-4-2 at any level of the game. These things transcend leagues (at least to a large degree).

But being able to stand out as a player in the Dutch league doesn't mean you'll be able to do the same in a faster, more physical league populated by superior players on average across the entirety of the division.

And we've signed players who haven't lived up to expectations even during Fergie's years (all clubs do), including players who had vastly better pedigree than Antony when we signed them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Its not obvious.

Tactics, style of play, competition, profile of player in the Prem are very different to that in the Eredvisie.

Like I say. If the manager can't pick a player who can adapt to the Prem, it should be a concern.

ETH rightly had a say in who we targeted. Yes the scouts and football director should have input, but ultimately, ETH has chosen Onana, and should therefore shoulder at least some of the blame.
